I know of a few sff tools out there but none appears to have the features I'm looking for

I'm looking for a command line tool that can count the number of sprites in a sff and extract a specific sprite, for example the sprite number 0,0

Does such a thing exist?

Thanks for you help :)

if you are using fighter factory: go to sprites hit ctrl+f, type the number you want, hit find, then "save spite(s) as image files" using the toolbar on the left.

this is the best method i've found. and less programs cluttering things up.

Jason Bourne

it doesn't support command line though, am I wrong?

It's not a command-line tool, but may I ask why that's a requirement?

^and may I ask why you ask lol?
but if you insist, it's for batch work ;)

sff2png works with command line but it doesn't seem to have any option to make filenames related to the sprite group/index

I tried sffextract and that one does much better with filenames but it doesn't support newer sff versions

any help appreciated thanks

With Fighter Factory 3 you can just click on Sprites tab at the top and then click Export. It will export all the sprites to wherever you send them. You can also click Import and the file again and it will put them all back in the same spot inside the SFF.

I'm sure there's probably a way to force FF3 to work with command line... but why.. an extra 9 seconds?
The time it takes to find a way to do it cmd style you'd be done with FF3.

^9 sec for 1 file, 90 sec for 10 files etc...
as i said it's for a batch work, a batch can make as many files as I want with one click

Odb718

FF3 exports groups. You can extract every image by 1 click. You can add intervals and a few other options.
command line you'd still have to point out each different group of each character.

^ not with a proper batch, i could do thousands files with a single click while take me years with a gui

now back on trail please

it literally takes seconds unless you have a decrepit old computer.

Here's some tools you can browse. http://randomselect.piiym.net/tools/
maybe what you need is there? but i don't believe such a thing exists atm.

^^^^^^^
By now, you'd be finished.
As it stands there probably isn't a already-achieved way to accomplish what you want. You could always of course find a way...but that'd take even more time right? Using FF3's GUI is your best bet right now. It's really simple  :-\

bros, if i had one file to process i wouldn't have bothered to make a thread, do you think i'm stupid lol?

if i'm looking for a batch compatible way, it's because that will save me tons of time doing tedious and repetitive work

JustNoPoint

I'm pretty certain only Fighter Factory can even decrypt the new sff format. It was a pretty big deal when the new sff format came out. Elecbyte worked with virtualtek to make FF compatible.
I highly doubt you'll find what you want for that reason.

Jason Bourne

maybe the linux version of FF has command line support?
the link being down I can not check it out by myself

JustNoPoint

Yeah, no one has come up with a link for it yet Once they do I'll upload it to Guild.

Jason Bourne

^I am considering writing my own tool to extract certain frames
is there any way to recover the index offsets from a sff v1/v2?

elecbyte.com seems down atm as well as all the docs and specs

Odb718

virtualltek figured it out...

he's impossible to join, I tried registering at his site, my account was never validated, and he doesn't answer messages sent to the contact form

he isn't coming around here anymore either

so really does not help me

Bastard Mami

sffextract is open source, but it only works with sffv1, for sffv2 I'd ask around for the format documentation. make a new topic for that or something.
