Hey guys, I've been around a bit and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I had recently started a youtube channel and although I see some mugen stuff on YT by MugenLord and stuff a lot of it is old...of course so is MUGEN, but I thought Id take a shot and I made a new intro series of videos about mugen, maybe for a new generation.

The series basically introduces MUGEN, tries to hype you up with all it can be, and then walks you through putting together a basic build, starting with getting a screenpack, then getting characters, then stages, with video 4 ending by showing the fruits of your labor of putting all the elements together with a "simul" battle with Blue Mary, May Lee, Infinite Chunli, and Infinite Sakura.

I would like feedback, and ideas for future vids. I plan on making more MUGEN vids maybe about my fave chars, stages, screenpacks, MUGEN sites, creators, and such. Of course, even though many sites have MUGEN stuff, I base the first vids around the MFG forums (naturally) since this is how i find everything.

I am new to YT, and editing, so please be kind. I have to use those "free intro" sites and a combination of my laptop webcam and screencast-o-matic, so my stuff isnt HD. however I would like suggestions, since I want to showcase and properly represent MUGEN.

I will add that of course, in YT, we like subs, so if any of you don't have a real problem throwing a sub out to help the cause, I say that would be appreciated also.

Okay, general feedback for the first video:

1) You don't have a time limit, keep redoing your takes until you get them right. Especially in a video that's trying to be informative, you shouldn't really have a part where you burp on camera and comment about it. If anything that might be for a blooper reel but not for the finished video. On the same note, if you lose track of what you're going to say, stop, rewind, and start over. Do the same dialogue multiple times, and then decide which version you want to keep. I know it's the current Youtube thing to look raw and unscripted, but you're not doing a Let's Play, you're trying to tell people about MUGEN. And when you do that, you need to be clear and precise.

2) Some of these jump cuts are pretty darn awkward, like when you mention a game and then you cut to a static screenshot of a MUGEN screenpack or footage of the game. It would save time and look a lot more professional if you had the screenshots/video happening while you talk.

3) Some music might be nice, because after a while its absence became noticeable, especially during parts where you weren't talking. Obviously you shouldn't be throwing in anything that'll get you flagged/muted/whatever, but from experience, most video game soundtracks seem to be in the clear (the older they are, the lower your chances of getting flagged). Hell if all else fails, I've never seen anyone get a takedown for using the production music from Ren and Stimpy.

4) That logo takes longer than it should. I'd probably cut the time down to about 5 seconds.

5) Is that... other people's Youtube clips? I'm assuming it is because video quality varies WILDLY between clips. That's kinda rude. You should at least make a note of which videos you used. Or better yet, get fraps or something and record yourself playing MUGEN. Add to the legitimacy a bit.

That's just my preliminary thoughts, I might watch the rest of it after work.

Hmm, ok...i see that. I try to inject a little comedy or something every once in a while to just break the monotony up...but that is a valid point.

good point. Ill definitely keep that 1 in my head.

Great point. however with my mic the screencast picks up very little sound besides me talking, even if i have sound on. the times you hear stuff is when i have it cranked, and i cant just have it blasting the whole time. if I layer music it may drown out the vocals. suggestions?

in the little montages yes, but i do use screencast o matic for a lot also. I wasn't trying to offend anyone, but if I have the same characters and stages I guess i didn't see what the difference was, it seemed quicker since i never tried to say i was the one playing. However it is a good point. I will say that the first intro/hype video is the only video where i did that...the other 3 vids, including the fight at the end of vid 4 are all my screencasts. I'll make sure to just use my own footage from now on. Nice points.

please do...I do like to try to have fun, as MUGEN is fun, thats why there's a little silliness in there from time to time. ...Im not giving a speech on the civil war or anything. But i do appreciate all these tips, They are valid. i hope you see the other vids, as they are , i think,  a little better. Looking forward to your thoughts.
