Finally put up a video of the 1.1 'emitter style' + directional hit spark and guard sparks prototype, I've been working on. Between the hit spark and guard spark I think it's a total of 7 sprites? All the animation, rotation, and colors are done in the code via variable changes.

I know need to work on the Helper calling code from the character itself since the X positioning is fudged, it's strictly (p2dist x) at the moment.

I started on the explosions last week but need to rethink them, since they look like ass when scaled up. I'll probably go with drawing them randomly in circle defined by a radius var, which will give me two scale vars. 1 for sprite size and 1 for radius. Need to revisit the hit sparks too, since the guard spark just looks better.

The sparks are inspired and partially pulled from SFxT.
