May 21, 2007 - Today Atari announced that Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is in development for the Wii and PlayStation 2. Namco Bandai and Spike are currently building the sequel, and Atari will publish the title this holiday season. Budokai Tenkaichi 3 will feature the same trademark fighting mechanics that made the first two games commercial successes.

"Atari is incredibly excited to offer the ultimate chapter in the Budokai Tenkaichi series with over 20 new characters that have never been seen in any other DBZ video games such as Nail, King Cold, and King Vegeta, and battle stages that fans will love," said Emily Anadu, Senior Product Manager, Atari. "Each year, the developers refine the game to bring fans closer to feeling like they are actually playing the show."

The game's special effects and shading techniques are being refined, and environments are being enhanced to include day and night versions of each stage. During night time, players will be able to harness the power of the moon to transform their characters in new ways.

The Dragon Ball Z license has been used in over 25 games that have sold over 10 million units since May 2002.

I beg to differ.

They weren't as successful as Budokai 3, and they were just successful because they had the word Budokai on the game title ::)

Wow, you people make me feel weird for liking Tenkaichi 2 (much) better than Budokai 3. :S

Now that's something I'd like to see.
You can help with Ikemen GO's development by trying out the latest development build and reporting any bugs on GitHub.

I guess it all depends what you wanted the game for.

As a loner-gamer, Tenkaichi is good enough

As a Versus Challenge, Budokai is teh rulzz.

Tankaichi plays like Zone of the Enders, which in my opinions is MIGHTY ROX, the only thing it's missing is the cinematic supers from Budokai (Because let's face it, that's the most appealing thing in Budokai 3, Dragon Rush sucks)

Budokai 2 had some Neko Majin Z cameo, and Neko Majin Z was in Super Sonic Warriors 2 if i recall correctly.

its games like this wich proves the ps2 has a lot of life still in it

Will we see a Create a Z-warrior Feature in this one? (I'm Hoping for it because I have some ideas for a Created Character like I did with SC3 and MKA)

DBZ fighting games are just too... simple. In 10 hours of game time, you have figured out most moves etc, then you play with everyone and see what ultimates etc they can do, and after that all that can get better is timing of moves, the kind where you hit and the opponent doesn't but you can't really explain why. No long-term fun at all :(

In, say, Tekken it takes 10 hours to get into one character, and not the more complex ones.

I think the reason why most people don't like tenkaichi is because you can see the lack of effort to make it a great game.

If you look at Budokai 3, you can see the effort and work put into the game. Each character has trademark animations and traits that come straight from the show. Overall the animations in Budokai 3 greatly surpass the animations of the Tenkaichi series. For example, Broly's normal state charge is taking staight from the movie, along with his LSSJ walk. Another example is Kid Buu's "beating chest" charge up, along with his stretchy arms.

In Tenkaichi, almost all the characters are the same, and the game just seemed good in theory, but not in practice. All the hit sounds in the Tenkaichi games are pretty much the same and the reactions and overall look of the characters seem dull and generic. The sounds and the "skins" over the characters are the only things that link the tenkaichi games to DBZ imo. To me, the first Tenkaichi seems like a fan made game, and the second tenkaichi game seems like a flashy version. Tenkaichi overall just seems to be for little kids who like to have all the characters there and "flashy but crappy" animations and sequences.

PS: Tenkaichi may seem like Zone of the Enders, but I think Zone of the Enders is alot more fast paced.

You people are insane, B3 had MAJOR flaws and the gameplay mechanics were broken beyond repair.

The BT series on the other hand is more of a DBZ simulator rather then a crap fighting game with DBZ skins tossed into the mix (Budokai Series), Budokai is all about cheap tactics and guessing games to avoid an attack (Dragon Rush = Worst Idea EVER).

In B3 all you have to do is repeatedly tap the Block button to dodge every attack thrown at you, BT on the other hand involves alot of skill and timing to dodge attacks.

I dont see how anyone in their right mind could possible like B3 over the BT series!? B3 was a terrible game IMO, of course its all a matter of taste I guess.

Megabyt2k2

Well, I personally LOATHED DBZBT...I LOVED B3, but they REALLY improved on the ENTIRE game with T2, so much so that I finally just went ahead and bought me a copy (played it quite a bit with my cousins when it first came out and I rented it from Gamefly)...so I'm intrigued to see where BT3 will actually go. If they don't take ANYTHING out that was actually in BT2, then they'll be fine I think...it's when they start taking stuff out to add stuff in when they start running into fan problems (just look at the fanbase surrounding the NFSU series compared to the newcomers that seemed to hord around NFSMW...a lot of people that loved NFSU didn't much like it's new successor...)

This is just my opinion anyway...
