Quick Sprite Question

Getting into the sprite making hobby, I didn't realize how many styles of sprites there could be... so I was wondering whats a nice one to start off with. Right now Madame Foster is very plain - poorly made and very paper.. what could I do to inhance the gameplay.. if thats the right way to put it...

Well she is based on a style of animation that is very "flash" like in appearance, everything is geometrically defined and clean cut.
In a way you have the style defined from the get go.

Maybe better shading..also get rid of those random color pixels in her hair..

Another thing I've noticed is, Yes shes a cartoon. But for what ever reason I find it hard to get thoughs cartoon like features JUST right befor stepping over the line ;(

if you want to practice spriting on a specific style, try making sprites on several and go with the one you like more/is easier to work with. you can even mix up styles.
