The arm facing the screen looks too boxy and rectangular.

Only showing one side of his face looks wierd.
Try showing both eyes at the same time while he is facing forward.

Seems to have a large abyssal area in between his mouth and his nose.
(He could have one hell of a moustache.)

His chin could be stronger I guess.

I thought this too, but hey if the author says its from scratch then i'll believe them.

Erm who is this ment to be? Is it supposed to be anyone or is it a completely original character?

Either way, the points I would have made have already been made. The only thing I'd add to the comments is to add more detail/definition to the shorts, atm it looks like he's got a towel wrapped around his waist as if he just got out the shower.
