Rules follow.

Contest Theme
Draw a sprite based on an existing picture of a character. Extra points if you drew the pic in the first place.

Contest Rules
Each contestant can submit as many entries as he/she wants. The winner is decided by the total votes a contestant scores, based on all of his entries.
When posting his entry, the contestant must post a link to the original picture as well. Any method of spriting over a pic is allowed (tracing over, frankenspriting, vectors...).

You can submit your entries until May 31, 2008.

Use this thread to post your works/comments/etc.

Extra Points
1 extra point if the sprite has a simple animation, something like bouncing, hair movement or facial expression changes.
2 extra points if the animation is complex.
1 extra point if the sprite is in double res.
3 extra points if you drew the picture you based your sprite on.

Nah. Of course, don't expect to get my vote if you do that.  :P

Can the sprite be of, say, one of my characters from my comic? Or does it have to be an actual fighting game related character?

Just making sure here.

Also, IMO it would actually be easier to convert pictures into hi res sprites than lo res sprites.

* Rikard wonders if people read the rules nowadays

@TDS: Anything is fine, but the rule of popularity sadly applies over this one as well. Don't expect to rack up votes unless your sprite is a piece of state-of-the-art graphics.

But you do get points for having it hand drawn.

Here's my entry.

I decided to do Skeith from the .//hack games, show, etc.

The sprite was made from a hand drawn picture I drew of Skeith.
I used MS paint.

Here is the hand drawn picture:

the hand drawn image was inspired by this image:

I also made an animation using hand drawn images.
Now that I've finished basic shading for the sprite, I will probably clean up and shade the additional sprites and sumbit the whole animation.

I checked again and the rules didn't specify yes or no =p

I don't figure I have a chance at winning. I just want to use this as an excuse to convert some of my cast into sprites ^^

Well, this is not the full entry, but before i spend some hours shadin the snake, i want to know if this entry would be valid. Plus you can tell me how it's looking so far.
It is based on a Ken Kelly's draw called "Snake Pit". If this would be a real character, i imagine this could be a nice intro for him. Of course he must slay that snake before the round starts ...

If i cannot perfectionate this sprite and submit it later (referring to rules), then i'll delete this post and then show the finished sprite.

Awesome work K.O.D.!

Only thing that itchs me is the buckle thing on his right sleeve.

Probably just due to the forums white background though making the light grey part look invisble and the other part just floating there.

Anyways just awesome.  :sugoi:

Second favorite one so far. Lookin' good and can't wait to see it finished entirely. Nice work c00per.  :)
