I've noticed recently that at random times for no apparent reason, when i start up MUGEN no music plays. At all. The title screen, stages, etc. The sound effects (menu items, characers etc.) work perfectly, it's just all the music.

What do I do?

Shazzo, I know you're very familiar with Mugen, so this may be something simple.  The first thing that comes to my mind is to check your plugins.  If all your music is in MP3 form, you only need one plugin.

In your MUGEN.CFG file, search for this:

;List Winamp-compatible plugins here.

  ;Specify the filename of the plugin and the list of file types to

  ;use the plugin for. One plugin per line.

  ;Example: plugin = plugins/my_plugin.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg

  ;

  ;If music is not looping with a particular plugin, you can try an

  ;optional first argument looptype=1 (seek to zero; may stutter)

  ;or looptype=2 (reload plugin; slow).

  ;Example: plugin = looptype=1, plugins/my_plugin.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg

plugin = plugins/in_mad.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg

Second thing I'd do is if you're using Windows XP, Decrease your Hardware acceleration to about Half. By default its set to full. This helps prevent music from skipping, and it might help correct no music playing at all.

If that doesn't work, give this guide a try: http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=40388.0
