2 Transparent colors in pallete??

I've encountered a few characters that seem to have not one, but 2 colors in their palletes that appear transparent ingame! First is the usual background color in the bottom right of the pallete, that much I get. But there are certain sprites that have black around them and then have bright pink around the black too! And when you apply the additive effect to the sprite, it treats the pink as if it were also black!

How do they do it?

Bastard Mami

You are a bit confused. the pink uses mugen's regular transparency, the black ad you said, uses additive transparency, and since black's colour value is 0 when you add 0 to any other color the color remains the same, thus being transparent.

Super_Sonic_67

No, see, the regular tranparent color in this pallete is green, actually. The character himself has the green color as the background and that is the transparent color. But, you're saying that I can make a certain color on a pallete have a value of 0? How is that done?
TOBI\'S A F***ING GOOD BOY! ^-^

Bastard Mami

No, the colour black has a value of 0 this has nothing to do with palettes.

Super_Sonic_67

But, do you at least see what I'm saying?

The regular, transparent color that is at the bottom right of the pallete is green,
There is a sprite with a black outline for the purposes of making the additive effect work, but outside the black is pink! Yet, somehow, mugen allows the pink to have the same additive effect as the black!

Would you prefer that I just give you screenies of the situation?
TOBI\'S A F***ING GOOD BOY! ^-^

Bastard Mami

ok, screens would be good, because they might prove/misprove my theory. the actual color that is transaprent does not matter, it can be pink, red, blue, yellow. as long as it is the first palette color.

Luis Alejandro

doesnt pots rare akuma have like a different transparent color for each pallet? i always wondered how he got that to work..

Cyanide

Unshared pallete perhaps? rare akuma was a joke and probably contains that because it's something you shouldn't do.

Ie: pink is in the transparent position (index 0) and black is affected by it's normal everyday goes invisible if A is applied effect. Take out the A from the .air entries. I bet moneys the black shows up and the pink stays transparent.

In M.U.G.E.N there is no magic button

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

Ok, as you can see, the lightning has a pink background, Sasuke has the green background. And you can see that the green is the transparent color for this pallete. you see what I'm saying now?

Also note that the pink color is not even part of the pallete at all. The pink color that you see in the third box at the top of the pallete is not the same pink as the one sorrounding the lightning.
TOBI\'S A F***ING GOOD BOY! ^-^

Luis Alejandro

dude * sighs*
thats because the lighting has its own pallet and does not share the same pallet as sasuke.

Super_Sonic_67

I understand that, but when I tried to duplicate the effect with one of my own sprites by sorrounding a black, outlined object, with the exact same color of pink, the pink only turned slightly transparent instead of becoming completely invisible like it does for the lightning sprite.

P.S. Please stop treating me like I'm an idiot just because I may not be quite as "Mugen-savy" as you? I'm frustrated enough by this dilemma. I appriciate the help, I really do, but could you please try and be more patient with me? I'm trying the best I can.  :'(
TOBI\'S A F***ING GOOD BOY! ^-^

Luis Alejandro

its because you still dont get it.
that green color is your transparent color for your sprites, and any other sprite thats shared with it.
now if you add a sprite with another pallet and share it, yea of course its not gonna be transparent because its pallet does not match with your current.

Ah, I see where you and I have gotten confused!

What I'm saying is, that I don't intend for the pink color to be the transparent color for the entire pallete.

I just want to know how that lightning sprite is able to have the pink eliminated as well as the black when the additive effect is applied to it.

TOBI\'S A F***ING GOOD BOY! ^-^

Luis Alejandro

its because its not shared to your other sprites.

Super_Sonic_67

This is a screenshot from Fighter Factory, and as you can see, the additive effect eliminates both the black and pink.

That is what I wanted to know, how that's done
TOBI\'S A F***ING GOOD BOY! ^-^

Luis Alejandro

because in the air file, its trans is set to =a
which makes it transparent.
black + transparency= gone.

Super_Sonic_67

Yes, I know "black + transparency= gone" but why does "PINK + transparency= gone???" That's all I want to know.

because, like i said.. in the lighting pallet pink is it transparency color..

Bastard Mami

Regardless of sharing, sharing does not mean that, I have loaded sprites with completely different palettes as shared and they show properly in mugen. color 0 is transaprent, regardless of any sharing stuff.

Super_Sonic_67

Hmmm... I think I may be seeing what you're trying to say... Let me try something... *goes and messes around with it* A ha! Now I getcha! I finally get it!

And, hey, thanks for helping me out, Luis... Sorry I was hard to teach.  :( No hard feelings?
