Hi all,

Please someone help me out.  Just starting out with mugen and not quite know my way around yet.  For some reason the mp3 music that I have add to my game don't work.  You only heard loud static sound in the background.  Do I need like some kind of card or is there a setting I need to configure?  Please help!

Joulz

hello,

you basically need to configure by editing your system.def file (in your mugen "data folder")... you should try to search the forum for "sound problem" or "music issues", you will get some answers as it is a common problem (the salvation comes with pluggins...)

Shamrock

I just glanced down this section and found "Help mp3s don't work" "Sound Problem" and "how do I intall plugins"

Maybe you should read the topics in a section before you post in that section.

Here is a link to a topic that is about 7 or so topics down from this one:

nope: they just know how to read i guess ;)
just browse the forum: there are different sections: you just have to go into the Configuration Help section (which basically means what it says: a place where you can get help!!!!)

vane3635

yea but isn't this the help section for newbs like me with newbie problems

Shamrock

Yes but you didn't read the topics in this section before posting. That's why I said what I said earlier. I even linked you to a topic that was on the same page.

Sorry but I answer this question every three days or so.

Please read the topics before posting.

vane3635

Sorry about it but do you think you can direct me to a good plugin that I can use for my mugen

Shamrock

I'm trying not to call you names right now.

Did you read this post?

Do you have eyeballs or a brain?

vane3635: there is no sections specifically for newbies: there is a Help section and that's more than enough...there,you can find EVERY answers (well pretty much anything mugen wise) you might need

please pay attention to what people tell you: imagine if every new comer ask the same question because he/she hasn't checked the forum yet...take your time,nothing cant be that urgent!! ;)

it's a matter of trying and troubleshooting: open your mugen.cfg file and to the plugin section:

;List Winamp-compatible plugins here.
  ;Specify the filename of the plugin and the list of file types to
  ;use the plugin for. One plugin per line.
  ;Example: plugin = plugins/my_plugin.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg
  ;
  ;If music is not looping with a particular plugin, you can try an
  ;optional first argument looptype=1 (seek to zero; may stutter)
  ;or looptype=2 (reload plugin; slow).
  ;Example: plugin = looptype=1, plugins/my_plugin.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg
;plugin = looptype=2, plugins/in_mad.dll
plugin = looptype=2, plugins/in_adx.dll, adx
plugin = looptype=2, plugins/in_vorbis.dll, ogg
plugin = looptype = 2, plugins/in_snes.dll, spc
plugin = looptype=2, plugins/dj-van.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg
plugin = looptype = 2, plugins/in_psf.dll, psf, minipsf, psf2, minipsf2
plugin = looptype = 2, plugins/in_qsf.dll, qsf, miniqsf
plugin = looptype = 2, plugins/in_wav.dll, wav

;plugin = looptype=2, plugins/in_APE.dll
;plugin = looptype=2, plugins/in_bass.dll
;plugin = looptype = 2, plugins/in_cube.dll
;plugin = looptype=2, plugins/in_mp3pro.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg
;plugin = looptype = 2, plugins/IN_MP31.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg

first get the plugins you need (depending on which type of format you will choose to use in mugen)...
for some people, mp3 format works,for some like me it's not working properly...for others (like me) using Ogg format works like a charm.... and for each plugin, you have to write the format it's supposed to play...like for example:

plugin = looptype=2, plugins/in_vorbis.dll, ogg

or

plugin = looptype=2, plugins/dj-van.dll, mp3, mp2, mpg

note that the lines starting with a ";" at the begining means mugen won't load the plugins!! (if you didnt know)...all of the glowing lines are loaded when mugen starts (because it doesnt have the ";"...i cant be clearer than that!!)

hope it helps somehow (even if this is not the discovery of the year: like i told you, this kind of problem has been mentioned & resolved before and it still is in the Configuration Help section of this forum!)

vane3635

oh I got it now. :o  When i first tried to use all of the plugin I didn't know that your not suppose to put the ";" at the beginning of each code line.  Well I'll give it a try and get back on yo.  Thanks for the info. ;D

Joulz

no prob...hope it settled everything! have a nice life

vane3635

 ;D I gave it a try and what do you knoi, it work perfectly.  Now here's my next problem.  You can add sound to a Char right?  IF so how do you do so?

Shamrock

Ok. Now your getting into the good stuff.

I recommend downloading and using Fighter Factory. There are other ways but for me this is the easiest program.

Use it to open the character and hit the sound tab and you can add sounds there.

You will then have to code the sound into the character. To learn more about the coding part I would read the Mugen Docs they have entire example on sound because there are two sound files the one in the data folder used for common sounds. These are the ones that kung fu man uses. and the sound file in your characters folder.

It's also a good idea to use Fighter factory or just open a .cns file with notepad and check out other people's coding on sounds.

Good luck.

vane3635

Nice thanks.  Now that I got a better since of mugen, I'll get back to you in about 2 month after I have create my own character.  Trust me it'll be good.  You'll be the first to get him.  Peace!

you mean you'll get back to us in 2 hours when you begin creating your new character?  :P
