This is the funniest thing I've heard in a while.

Composition and art go hand in hand when it comes to stage making.  You could have the best arrangement and still make a shitty stage because the art quality is poor.  You could have the best art and still make a shitty stage because you have no concept of space.

What's your point ? If the stage is well put together and appealing to the eye, with correct coding, then it's a good stage, whatever the source is.

I would presume that his point was that we do the same with characters. It's not that the quality changes, it's that the author is less respectable for it (since companies such as Capcom and SNK have confirmed they don't mind fanart like Mugen), and there have been past occurances of creators being nominated for worst character or being evicted from best character because of such attitude. So yeah, one might imagine double standard being at work there. Note that I'm saying "imagine".
