Well, with Haggar, not really. Progress is going, but slowly. With Zangief, there's progress, but now I have to test all the grabs and make sure the timing and alignments are good - which I keep putting off. Sorry. Here's the good news: Converting these chars has already given me the tools with which to make at least one basic, working char. So I applied these tools to making a less grab-intensive char with simpler sprites and palettes. And an inspiration struck me, like a ninja! Check the releases board.

Too nice,I can't wait eighter to play as those characters.Great work dude. :2thumbsup:

Wow i wasn't to interested in this project at first but after i saw mech zangief har har looks good.... FOR MOTHER RUSSIA USSR FOR LIFE!!!

ps I forgot who made the zangief godzilla but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.... I was thinking maybe you should ask that guys permission if you could use his sprites for that president figure he uses in some of gief's moves and possibly make some more :).

I've just discovered winkawaks!!    :D  It's way better than mame, in my opinion. And I found a good rom for SSF2T. Now I don't have to frankensprite Zangief's Banishing Flat. Yay.

This is the REAL Banishing Flat:

Now I just have to work on the palette. As soon as I polish off the throws and some more coding, I'll get to work on the sounds. He's already a beta in my book (cuz I've played worse). But I'll actually release him when I think he's a much, much better beta. Updates should be a bit more frequent now.

I've just discovered winkawaks!!   :(  Unfortunately, I also realized that editing sprites is very difficult. Thus, I've come to the reality that using existing sprites to make chars is way easier than making your own, or making detailed edits to existing sprites. That being said, my Haggar project is being modified. I realized that the sizes for the SNES sprites were a bit off:

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc67/atomicbuster/sprite05.png
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc67/atomicbuster/sprite10.png

and there's really no way to fix it. The only sprites that are a good (but not great) size are from the CPS1:

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc67/atomicbuster/spriteCPS1.png

Therefore, here are the modifications:
1) I'm going to use CPS1 sprites for my Haggar project until I can find a way to resize pics without having them lose resolution.
2) I'm going to keep all my edited sprites and work on them whenever the mood strikes me.
3) I plan to edit the new sprites and make the moves I had in mind for Haggar.

In conclusion, I have the coding and sound, I need to do the sprites and palettes again, I need to fix some bugs, and there's no AI. I guess he's at 60% before beta release.
Damn you winkawaks for opening my eyes to better sprites!!!

you have several choices with your sizes and looks.

use the first link (really small one) and blow him up using Photoshop (to give a more clear but blurry image) got a Large clear/blurry version
enlarge him by 150%  (instead of 200%) and use the Median Tool on Paint Shop to get a not as pixelated version. for a decent sized version
and
use the winkawak's version, blow him up using Photoshop, then use scale .5,.5 in his CNS to give him high res looks.

wow i cant believe the mods let you get away with that triple post lol

p.s zangief is one of my all time faves ;)

Man, I'm glad this is still alive.
No, the project is not dead, it's just on hold, since I got a new cpu with Vista. I encountered some mouse pointer problems that wouldn't let me use MS Paint because there was ZERO accuracy. After a month I was able to fix it (trial and error), then summer came around and I started some home-improvement projects, so there was no time. Then summer ended and I got a new job, so basically my free time went down to zero. The last thing I was able to do was release FinalFight3 Black before I switched cpus.

The only update I've able to make for these guys concerns the palette. I used kfm as my base, like all good noob creators ;). But the palettes kept coming out very wrong. Well, someone suggested I use dos2win on the chars and WOW IT WORKED! But that's it. I've also been working on single-sprite edits of other char ideas (like my avatar).

Ryon: Thanks for the advice. I'll try to do that. One thing, you said use Photoshop, then use Paint Shop, then use Photoshop again. Is that right?

So you went to the website and downloaded him by clicking the link next to a lengthy description, right?
Why don't you read the description.

As for more sprites, I tried to make him look like SF2, so he is not going to have more than 3 to 5 sprites per move.

DGO

Just download the char and don't read his info, my apologies ... but i keep my mind in to Haggar animations feels too beta, example... crouching light punch.. are the same sprite and only his  hand moves

Zangief is 33% complete (before I release him for beta testing, that is). I may have to change the topic name, cuz I'm focusing on more than the chars I originally started with. I'll also post updates on the site.

EDIT: Now that this topic includes all my WIPs, let me tell you about Guy. I've been working on Guy using arcade sprites + Frankensprites. My goal is to make him in SF2 style. And he's mostly done. Thanks to more established creators for giving me coding help.

I want to try to avoid double posting unless it's something very important. If it's not very important, I'll just Edit my previous post.

I made a new big portrait for Haggar for his next update.
