i hear people saying that the electbyte template is bad to use. they say to just copy and rename kfm. well ive made a few chars and they used that template. why is it so bad? will it help the AI perform better? i would just like some clarification.

Renzo F

Is a common practice to re-use KFM files, and sometimes (more often than anyone could wish) the character ends being a sprite swap of KFM. That's the reason.

jointhemasters

so its bad because people like re-using KFM? thats it? ???

aokmaniac13

It seems silly when you think of it that way.

jointhemasters

if its true though thats really all it is. if it made the AI perform better id switch but if its just that ppl like it more its doesnt really make a difference. i tend to look at things black and white. there is no gray area.

Renzo F

AI doesn't have to do anything with KFM templates.

jointhemasters

yeah i understand its hard coding. i though kfm maybe had some of that coding already done. apparently not. well thank you all for the info. ill continue to use electbyte because if prefer it.

IIRC correctly the animation data is corrupt.

i think we should call it an "engine" so we don't look like total idiots because otherwise we'd be arguing about a "game" and that would be somehow "dumber" than arguing about an "engine" on the "internet" for countless hours

I for one, do not enjoy round corners!  :bigcry:
But they hurt much less when we accidentally hit them!  :S

Cyanide

The elecbyte template breaks things. I think the animation data is corrupt, yes. But there have been other problems revolving round that piece of shit and it's much simpler to have people use stable files than that... THING.

I have personally felt the effects of animation corruption brought on by the Elecbyte template.

AFAIK know, very few people even think about using it anymore, and IMHO opinion it's not too much of a suprise.

in my humble opinion opinion?  ;P

Basically, if you come here with your character crashing, without telling you why other than send/don't send, and you've used the template. It's because you're using the template.

Many people still use it. I've convinced a decent number not to. If you refuse to use KFM. Use the "blank.zip" from my second tutorial. It's seriously cut down so you won't get KFM out of it, but it does give you the non sprite based... base files.

And, as far as I know know.

To see why, check MirageAtoli's post.

Also keep note that the original template files also contain incorrect expressions and stuff that a good parser won't allow. Fortunately  enough (that goes to all you newbies), mugen allows broken expressions to run, but other engines such as XnaMugen and InfinityCat would crash or carry up warnings

I think this is weird.
I have been using the Elecbyte template for quite some time.
And I know which anim that is corrupt (5300, Dizzy). So I just remove it and re-add it. Works fine.

My characters run in XNAMugen. Nothing wrong, no errors.
But yeah, you should either use KFM or the blank files in Cyanide's tutorial (or re-use one of your old character(s)).

I just use my previous char as a template.

Byakko

Anjel : I don't know anything about that template, but if the "broken" lines are only on specific parts of the template (like a certain state controller) then maybe it doesn't crash for you because you don't use the faulty sctrls. Well, that's only what Iget when reading the posts here. I don't even know what template you guys are talking about :P
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

Anjel

I use/edit all states in said template.
The only error I have encountered is the Dizzy anim (which sometimes makes the character impossible to start). But just removing then re-adding it fixes it.

Fighter Factory comes with some "templates" built in. The Elecbyte Template (no there shouldn't be an extra T dammit) is one of them. People pick it up, don't know what's wrong, and then it dies.

Also, fighter factory has state controllers you can double click to add to your .cns. Useful, but the syntax is wrong in a number of them. Hitdef most notably. Causes problems as well.

now c that is info i wanted. if it makes the game crash then THAT is a reason to use kfm. (in xna anyway) thank you all

ive also noticed, in my experience using elecbyte template(often grilled for it lol)

that it corrupts the .sff, i made a template for team members of my project and they kept getting the error that winmugen has encountered an error and needs to close(usually when adding new sprites)... sometimes it works after a second try of running mugen, but then other times it stays on the error and closes all the time.

the issue was fixed "oddly" by going to file > templates > winane AI...... and saving the new .sff as the required file name for your .def.

now mugen no longer crashes......(not saying its just the .sff, obviously its corrupted .air in the past like when adding new clsns) but this was one of the more common causes in my opinion..

also i think it depends on the way you set up your files when using elecbyte template... theres a certain way to set them up without EVER getting errors... for akuma and chaos blanka i used the elecbyte template and i never had a single error.

i made the .def file first(after going to file>templates>elecbyte player)..... then clicked save as... saved it... then hit save all and saved the files accordingly.

might not work for everyone but those are the methods that worked for me.

and yea quick fix = just dont use it lol

or make your own template XD
