This is my W.I.P soon to be first character  
I am going to edit AngelM's open source sprites and I am also adding a few of my own edits Goutetsu.

I am trying to figure that out
maybe it's not a good idea for him to be holding sagat
anyone else

Well, you could bend the legs so it looks like he's holding him at his height on a level floor.

Should be easier than ditching the whole idea altogether.

The hand that is holding Sagat is on backwards. 

He could also toss him by the legs, similar to Sailor Jupiter.

Well I want to at least have all the basics of ryu then add some original moves

The hand that is holding Sagat is on backwards. 

Not only that, but he seems to have some kind of Dhalsim 'stretching' skills for his thumb to appear on the other side of Sagat's fat neck...for such tiny hands, I mean.

couldnt be, since he is the origin of such techniques. he teached Gouken and Gouki. the self nature of the character stabs you in the back...   


about the sprites.
the torso shuld be bigger compared to his legs and head (compare hands vs feet proportions!)
the stance flow needs work
if he hasnt the upper part of the gi, then that lil "skirt" shouldnt be here (just like in shoto guile)
the feet are diferent shaded-colored than the rest of the body
the thing in his head(idont recall the name) needs definition in its form

dont use black as color 0, use a color you know wont be in a sprite.
