How do you think about combo ?
I mean in fighting game (not in KFC or MacDonald)

normal -> command -> special -> super ->even another super

to me that means slower gameplay, and kinda boring since it would be just that same 2 or 3 attack patterns over and over again,

I like to play with my reflex and tactics, taking opponent life here and there,
rather than abusing one opening into a hellish damage and go straight to the next round and see who get that opportunity first.

eventhough that one hellish looking combo has damage dampener, still it ruins my momentum, and the intense of the fight,
because of the time player lost control & concentration during the flashy animation
(that sometime feels like a commercial break during an interesting movie)

however I'm not totally anti combo since it also becomes boring, I like normal to another normal combo
(a rather freestyle custom combo with only hit velocity, pausetime and juggle point as restriction),
with a special as finisher, that eat 1/6 of opponent health
or a super as finisher, that would take 1/3 of opponent health.
and done as brief and natural as possible, to keep player's concentration on the fight.

that's my personal oppinion, how is yours?

Rote Zaungast

90%(or more) of the fighting magic would not exist if it weren't for their trickiness

Combos are your license to kill. If you can't combo, you shouldn't be playing fighting games. ;D

As an aside, Bloody Roar 2 is a neat game.
QuoteImagine a zanguief runing to attack ryu, ryu does a quick+kind of weak fast punch and hit the chest of zanguief, will this punch be enough to zanguief say/think \"oh no, this punch hurted a little, I better stop the attack and put my hand on my chest to help contain the pain while ignoring if ryu is going to make other attacks now"

K.O.D

depends on the character, some aren't meant to be doing much comboing and instead rely on other stuff (grapplers like Daimon, keep-away and bait characters like K', etc.)

Loona

All things in moderation - they started as harmless glitches, so it's weird to me when games focus too much on them and you're actually expected to be accurate with input commands to the frame/tick.

Bloodly

Depends on the nature of the combo-light combos aren't a problem, 80% damage ones more so.  Because whilst it's fun on your end, it sucks when it happens to you, especially when it looks like you should be able to recover, but cannot.  There should always be a recover or a break or a dampener or SOMETHING.

We've seen long combo chain characters in MUGEN.  They're fun to watch, not necessarily to fight.  When you can put the keyboard down and just watch your character die, there's a problem.  Even if it's source-accurate.

It depends on the game, long periods of time where a player can't act at all are aggravating, especially if there's no incentive for the aggressor to go for a reset. IE, Marvel has infinites, but has flip out after X combo hits to make resets the more valuable option in a lot of circumstances. Then again, early games like SFII:CE had 3 or 4 hit combos that didn't require any super of specials at all that set up a kill, so I can't think of any really good game with no combos either.

I have many names,

The options are all pretty weird but I guess the license to kill one works.  I don't mind long combos as long as the end is in sight.

Basically what POTS said. Fuck 70+ hit combos in the last fighting games. I definitely prefer the old school games such as SFZ3, SF3, KOFs and CVS. In these games, the combo characters can deal a good amount of damage with 5 hit combos, but it's not about pressing 300 buttons during 50 seconds to remove 70% of the opponent's life, opponent who will go take a leak while you're inputting your combo, since he has nothing else to do for the time being.

In HnK, show me exactly what the opponent does when he's caught in a 70 hit combo. :)

c0098327593475 is retarded.

Voted combo as long as it has dampener and maybe faultless defence.

Turtling around roll cancels? The custom combos aren't really that bad so it ought to be that.

I think its the grooves thing, casual players get disheartened by games that ask them to make tons of picks before the game starts.
Quotehow did you do that, can my char do that? Why dont i have supers like you/combos like you!!

BigSally

I usally get the combo wit the fries  ;P

Combos pimped out fighting games and made them sexier  ;)

cmon, you know cvs and cvs2 are different games

anyway for the combos, the more freedom you have with chaining and canceling, the more system mechanics there should be to prevent or stop them
