Lately i play the Soul Calibur games a lot, unlocking everything in them all and trying to get better with my favourite characters.

But while other fighting game series just went bigger with the time (Tekken,Streetfighter,Dead or Alive) the fighting system changed from SC to SC game, with positive and negative effects.

I myself prefer SC II above the rest, found the gameplay in 3 and 4 a bit too fast and hectic in comparison

Vans

Soul Calibur II. I just couldn't get into the newer ones. :/

I still think Soul Edge had the best OST in the series though. Bravely Folk Song <3

Zeo

Soul Calibur II. Best version of Yunsung, funnest fighting of them all and contrary to OP's post, I felt like 2's fighting was faster and smoother than the next two.

In fact, they honestly got worse to me with every new installment.

barring the stupid star wars shit, sc4 was better than 3 but 2 is still the better game

Unrelated picture.

But on a more serious note, I would choose SCIII.
The game was pretty balanced and fun except for Night Terror and Collosus, they're asses.

Rest in peace, Tamez. Thank you for everything.

Soul calibur 2, Bcuz of NECRID! He was Baddest Mo'focker that SC haven't see.

but thanks to the Retarded fanboys he was banned from the next SC games, with the most Horrible Bolivan Army Ending.

Soul calibur III = character creation which was sweet!  that's about it... soul calibur II was a better game, but Soul Blade was the best one! (Star was doesn't deserve a place in the series it just doesn't fit...)
"Given the choice; whether to rule a corrupt and failing empire or to challenge the Fates for another throw a better throw against one's destiny... what was a king to do?

SC2. It was the only one that I felt Nightmare was pretty solid, and when they changed Nightmare in Soul Calibur 3, it took me forever to get used to him (Since I felt that Siegfried EVEN slower in that game). And they had Link for the Gamecube. He was probably the best guest character at the time.

Absolute my opinion as well, the Soul Edge Soundtrack is epic, from the Intro Song to just all Arena Music except the collosseum maybe

Fanboys didn't keep Necrid out, he was always meant to be a one off character created by Todd McFarlane in return for putting Spawn in the game.  The fact that he was received negatively is irrelevant.

MDD

I liked Necrid. >:(

SCII was obviously the best gameplay wise. It also got the best guest characters compared to fucking Darth Vader and Yoda.

aznperson569M

SC3 was fine without guest characters, but SC4 just killed the guest character thing. At least Kratos from God of War got an appearance in the PSP version.

yeah but he was a good character after all, if namco could bring him back as Nightmare second Body it could be a good idea, bcuz C'mon say hat he was "incompatible" with the series.

dayum we had darth vader, marek and Yoda in SC4

You're missing the point.  They CAN'T, they don't own him, Todd McFarlane does.

Acutally, SCIII was supposed to have Dante since Capcom used SCII's engine for something in DMC3. I don't know why he was left out though.

Also, in a sense, Algol is the spiritual successor to Necrid, since they both have similar means of fighting.

SCII. Reason is the same as people above.

I hope the new SCV will be as good as SCII.

Riptide

I only played the first and the second one.

I have to say playing Soul Calibur II on the arcade was the best use of 50 cent I've ever done.
I ended having to stop playing as opposed to loosing.

DMK

Played everyone but Soul Edge, so best time all around was with Soul Calibur 2. Played every version of it and the only one I ever felt I had the mechanics for a wide range of characters down.
