i would wish for a darker background, and a overall darker theme. Maybe some skulls or candles in the background for a great atmosphere as well

No. Additional themes are a lot of work, few people actually use them, and there are few acceptable ones around for smf to begin with because it has a fairly complicated theming system.

Then again, a lot can be done with css in a properly coded theme without the risk of breaking functionality, so different stylesheets mostly changing the colors may be an option. it's still unlikely to happen because I rarely wake up thinking "yay gonna do something creative today, maybe a new colorscheme!"

new color scheme/theme options would have to combine with the colors used for the board icons unless you want to make separate board icon images that change with the theme and that's way more work than it is worth
