How you play fighting games  reflect your personality and how one thinks?

I noticed most introverts play defensively and while assertive people or extroverts tend to play aggressively, love to win or impatient.

I'm an introvert by default moving towards becoming an extrovert and also an artist.  I love to challenge myself  and would rather win through strategy.  I did once troll using Karin with her one bar life meter throw.

Does it also affect one's character and game preference?

What kind of fighting games do you prefer?

Are close or open minded?  Do you get out of your comfort zone?  Are you an exclusive KOF, SF, Tekken, GG-like games or do you play a LOT of other fighting games?

For me I've played  a lot of fighting games even the obscure ones.  Tohou, Last Blade, Garou, Asura Busters, Spectral vs Generation, Sengoku Basara X Cross, and many more.

A lot of people I know don't seem to get out of their comfort zone and will play exclusively SF or MVC.

So what's your personality and how you play your game?  Defensive, offensive or strategic?

HMMMM i actually play all 3 ways but alot depends on which character i use and who i am up against wether player controlled or game AI.

If i use say Guile from sf i play more defense than offense  but i will go strategic if up against a character/player that uses more trap like moves or grabs.

with Ryu i am all about the offense and setups and look for alot of openings in the others defense and take a cool quote from the martial arts world : " with every action or hit there is a reaction that leads into the next motion" . something like that. lol .

now if using a sword or staff type character i play a well toned ranged defense and attack  when the player/character attacks are done and only if i know i can connect with a solid hit to keep going with a well timed stream of chains and then recoil back to my regular defensive position.

A throw heavy grab character i use, i play solid defensive and again only engage when player is open to throws. I only pressure when i know i got good block ability and dodge against projectile heavy characters.  If i use Zangief , i dont want the fight to last too long so i apply pressure game only after blocking in incoming attack.

Speedy characters i always go offensive if i have them but up against them i use alot more strategy and trap styles with setting them up.

well thats my playstyle in a nut shell. I always play either depending on how the player/Ai goes against me in the flow of the battle or i use change ups in the character i have to get the most out of that characters moves.

i have no main preference in fighting games. i am an old school gamer. its all about the fight itself no matter the game or style. Some games like MVc3 i didnt find myself to thrilled with that much cause i didnt like the overkill of the ground bounce and some characters were just taking total advantage of that. lol its coool but its not one of my favorite type games. SF4 tho is my kind of flavor for the franchise , well any of the street fighters per say. As well all of the KOF and SNk games... i just didnt like KOF 12 but i still have it and play evenry once in a while but 13 is the bomb. I love 3d fighjting games alot more now like Virtua Fighter series and DOA series..had them all. I have had all the Tekkens except that last 3 games and played all the DBZ games from old to new. I even play some of the new games like the sengoku basara and so on with the anime like games.. So my taste varies.

But how did you start as a beginner or what was your default strategy at the beginning?

When I started back in the 90's  I use Chunli most of the time because she was fast.  As I continued I started playing other characters cause it was getting boring.  As soon as I mastered Ken, Ryu, Blanka, E. Honda I began to experiment with Dhalsim for a challenge and I was pretty good with him but I never touched Zangief until SF Alpha 3.  That's the time I started appreciating grapplers.  I like the fact SFA3 was balanced compared to SFA2.  I eventually started to enjoy Gen whom I find difficult to use in SFA2.  I tried many characters Guy, Rolento, Juli, Juni and many more.

What's your strategy for MVC2?  Do you like using high tier characters or a projectile spammer using Strider and Dr. Doom?

I usually use Psylocke, Blackheart and Storm against high tier spammers like Cable users or combo freaks like Magneto.  I usually win 1 out of 10 but I like a good challenge.  The one opponent I just quit immediately are the Spiral experts who just spam knives at you all day.  I wouldn't waste my time with them.  I find the best matches are the one's who use T.Bonne, Cammy and Sonson.

Have you tried any of the obscure fighting games like Spectral VS Generation, Breakers Revenge, Rumble Fish and Fighter's History Karnov's Revenge?

I really don't know how to define my playstyle. I tend to play offensive characters or defensive characters that assert their defense through strong pressure. I also enjoy long combos, mindgames, and various set-ups that I can transition into from my combos. I'm not even that extroverted half the time. ._.

Is finding MUGEN to be more enjoyable to play when you're not wearing clothes an underrated opinion?

Breakers' and Karnov aren't exactly obscure now. Especially compared to the likes of SVG.
That game was so stupid broken, goddamn. Wells forever. lol (Jadou 2 too I guess)

Simply spamming knives doesn't make them experts, yet if they set you up and you cannot find a way to escape, it's 100% legit. Especially air dispersal, that shit is crazy but all you need to do is highjump, take the chip, and manage to bait out any airthrows coming at you since nobody has an air unblockable so you're safe and Spiral will have wasted one important meter.

Also I play oddball characters when they're there (3S being Twelve, Q, Oro and Sean (yes he counts)), 'cept Zappa 'cause I dropped him hard.
I also like playing low tier hero since I'm such a hipster. #sonsonmarrow2013

My philosophy is to play more to the player's tendencies than the character's, so I like to play characters that play mindgames. I also like to do as much damage as I can without putting myself at risk, so characters that are generally safe are my choices.

I just pick a character I like, and stick with it even if I'm good or bad with it. I can't enjoy a fighting game if I'm forced to play with a character I just don't like.

Markpachi

I noticed that you take your research about fighting games seriously. I respect you for that, man.

Street Fighter (All except 1 and 3)
I always use Sagat. He's been my main for god knows how long. I'm a pretty defensive player, always waiting for an opportunity to attack rather than charging into the enemy. I use his projectiles as a "distraction". (Example: Using Sagat's low tiger shot to make the opponent jump, then I bring down the thunder when there's a chance) I use Sagat's long limbs to poke the opponent if possible. I'm also a complete douche because I taunt a lot. (I also get punished a lot because of that taunt)

Tekken 3
I use Paul Phoenix. I'm very aggressive when I use him in T3. I tend to switch up my attacks from low to high to grabs. I'm also a very cheap player because I tend to spam Phoenix Smasher (IIRC That's what it's called but me and my friends call it "Paul Fist") and once the opponent is successfully hit by the attack, I run towards him/her and use the unblockable shoulder tackle/stomps. Sometimes I cancel the run and use Paul's Burning Fist instead, leaving the opponent shocked.

Tekken 5
I use Asuka here. I'm defensive when I use her, relying on pokes and parries. But once I see an opening, I become aggressive, charging in with simple combos and painful attacks. While I use her, I hate it when the stage has walls because I tend to get pressured a lot.

Tekken (6 onwards)
Ganryu all the way! I'm mad aggressive, charging in with his launchers, Freight Train Combo, and Sumo Squash. I tend to break the opponent's momentum by using his Strong Open Palm attack, Chanko Spin, Salt Upper, Sumo Swat, and Toukon Slap. I also rely on punishers and confusion strategies. And since not a lot of people use Ganryu, I use their lack of knowledge to my advantage. I use the attacks and strings that they're clearly not aware of. An example of that is the Toukon Slap.

I hope what I said helps you out!

Rest in peace, Tamez. Thank you for everything.

Duos.act

I must have MPD then because I can adapt to whatever style my character demands.

In every fighting game i ever played, buttonmashing always brought me victory.

Generally my mantra for fighters is the same as for everything else: "Whatever works".

Im pragmatic and such.

Very interesting. You sound like you're critiquing me!!

I always gravitated towards the archetype that was more of a loner, crazy/insane, different or downright aggressive. See Kazuya, Heihachi, Yoshimitsu, Ivy, Voldo, Vega, Akuma, Ken Wolverine, Sabretooth, Scorpion, Kabal and a lot that I can't recall right away. I always seem to pick the more oddball or aggressive playstyle right away. I also like to put a lot of pressure on to my opponent and be defensive only when necessary. I do love to counter attack through anticipation, and that maddens my opponent like no other. Case in point: My Tekken 1 Tag team of Yoshimitsu and either Jin Kazama or Heihachi Mishima. I would piss people off very often because I nailed spacing down to a science and would play off of their mistakes and decimate the shit out of them.

What's even more interesting is that I just got into sparring and I kinda do the same thing. Since I'm just starting out, there's plenty to learn and refine, but the similarities remain.

I follow a rather strange tendency. For me, I must find characters that are appealing to me, regardless if they're beginner friendly or not. Over the 85% of times I will pick female characters because I like looks, backstory or find them interesting to play as. I'm not a person who's into 3D fighters, so, no Tekken, SC or VF for me. This tendency of mine is broken currently in 4 games. DS, JJBA, GG and MK.

Pretty much my forte resides in 1 vs 1 combo happy games. My best game is MBAA. Although, sadly, I'm semi-retired against my will.

Elaborating more on my playstyle:

- I like challenges. I don´t feel like using overall safe characters all the time, I like taking risks; think about how to get in with "X" character with its advantages and disadvantages. I like both fighters in 2D and 3D plane (TTT2 and Marvel right now cause I can´t XIII due to network :( and I don´t like SF4). I like using both ogres in TTT2,, that should say a lot :P
- I also feel the need of learning, at least in a basic level, some characters every now and then. I just can´t hold this feeling :P
- I can´t use women in any fighting game I play, I don´t know why. I only use Angel in TTT2 and... I´m not sure if that counts :P

I think it's not about personality, it's more like the very moment you're playing OR the character you feel more comfrotable with. I'm mostly a Tekken player and with every character I use, I play differently.

- Nina: She's my main. I like to play using SHORT(but destructive) combos, sidesteping and attacking from there, sneaking reversals, and when possible multi-throws(yes I use them :P). I play this way since Tekken 2(except the sidesteps). Then namco did Nina: Death by Degrees where the gameplay allow som crazy stuff using my technique :D!(even being a terrible game---LOAD SCREENS/GAMEPLAY)
- Xiaoyu: LET'S BE CRAZYYYYYYY!!! Palm; backwards, jump+sit on rival's head, palm in the nose!! Then, I use longer combos than with Nina and/or attacking from AoP.
- Law: Agressive/Sneaky
- Paul: Totally agressive play.
- Heihachi/Kazuya: Static attack. I mean, being quiet and then attack ONLY when I see an open window :P
- Yoshimitsu: Let's taunt the rival!! I like to turn people mad!! "you gonna attack me? I'm sitting cuz I'm bored! Woah! I disappeared! hey, is that a back? LET'S HUGH!!!". Stuff like that :P

When comes to SF:
- Chun Li: Agresisve play.
- Rose: Let's turtle and sneak some open windows to attack!(yes it's a WEIRD way to play with her, but hey! it works!!)
- Ryu/Ken: Exactly as Kazuya/Heihachi.
- Balrog(CLAW): It's a varying style, so it depends more on the fight, sometimes offensive, sometimes agressive...
