Bastard Mami

This is a name characters topic; we have the game that most representative of the genre named street fighter yet mots of them are martial artists; that is not only on it , it happens in a lot of fighting games so how many of the characters in all fighting games are actually street fighters, by that I mean characters whose technique looks like it was just self developed and does not closely resemble a martial art.

terry bogard; his fighting stlye does not seem to resemble a specific martial art and he is famous for wandering the streets, fighting whoever.
shen woo; again does not seem to resemble any fighting art,he trained in the streets of hong kong.
cody; I am not very familiar with his plot after/since sf4, did he ever practice a martial art ?

Duos.act

Everyone involved with Final Fight + Birdie + Alex are Street Fighters.

I presume we're not counting non-human (or non-humanish) characters.

Jack Turner
Rock Howard
Duck King (unless breakdancing is supposed to be a modified variant of Capoeria)
Iori Yagami

Those are just some that popped up.

lucky glauber

Presumably, Lucky uses Karate just with basketball attacks (his standing CD looks similar to a move Makoto (SF) has). I don't think Brian uses a martial art; he does some wrestling moves but anyone can do that. :P

EDIT: I think I got the topic wrong, if were talking about characters that street fight, then yeah, the Sports Team counts.

terry was trained by tung fu rue (jeff bogard and geese howard's teacher) who taught him the power wave (terry shoots his across the ground instead of straight out like tung) and rising tackle (senpuu gouken with a retarded spin) and how to just use ki overall

and cody was a blackbelt in karate prior to becoming a street fighter/"criminal"
i cant count the reasons i should stay

one by one they all just fade away...

i agree shen woo is the perfect example of a street fighter, i think his character is heavily influenced of a shanghai gangster seeing he is from shanghai and he wears your typical gangster shirt.
ralf jones and his nukefu,
b,jenet
chang and choi even though they were kapwhan is teaching them they don't use taekwondo techniques
yamazaki
rick straud
balrog (claw guy)
most rival school characters could be considered street fighters.

Nero D.

ralf, jenet, rick strawd and claw are actually all martial artists

ralf practices "military" arts (the same shit guile uses) with fucking explosions because why the hell not i mean really, jenet has lk arts (whatever the fuck that is but it looks like....i dont know) rick strowd is a straight up boxer (which is why vanessa ganked most of his moveset) and claw is a ninja/bullfighter (ninjitsu and what looks like savate judging by the kicks)

hell yamazaki practices "self-taught" karate but he mostly just violently beats the shit outta people so that really doesnt count (he does bust dojos tho, something a martial arist or someone with a martial artist mindset does)

Hwoarang is a martial artist and also a 'street fighter' in personality and backstory, he made money by placing bets on himself in literal street fights... Lili did this too, I think.

Style wise, though, Miguel.

Jango

Ren Idagawa from Big Bang Beat
Jessica from Ougon Musou Kyoku
Sakuma from Osu Karatebu

Bastard Mami

jessica is debatable for she is a boxer just (like her father) and likes women just (like her father).

about final fight, for the ones who made it to real fighting games, guy adn maki practice that weird bushin/ninjutsu , haggar is a wrestler, rolento does military martial arts shit and hugo is a wrestler, that leaves poison and cody; maybe more people if we count revenge.

rgveda99

Forgot to mention Matlok from Fighter's History.

Was about to include Ray but according to his file his a martial artist.

Iori Yagami ? Explain
Esaka rules Beat that.... Or Just Get outta my way

Saikoro

Hmmm

While this may sound cliche, wouldn't Ryu fall under this category?? He is a vagabond that wanders the world looking for a challenge, so in my eyes, he is a perfect street fighter. Or "anywhere" fighter if you want to go that far. I think the white gi and red headband make him look too much like an established martial artist instead of a wandering warrior. I'm gonna stretch it and say Ken as well, but he is a tournament fighter who gets caught up in... Street Fighter matches. LOL

With Capcom on the brain, Birdie comes to mind as does the Mad Gear Gang.

SNK wise...

Terry Bogard, as he transcends a lot of SNK titles. And he is an excellent design that screams distinguished brawler. Couldn't we say King from Art of Fighting/King of Fighters?? She is a BArtender who can kick ass with elegance. Thus, she'd make an excellent bouncer. ;D

I fucking hate Miguel... but yup, he fits the bill perfectly.

Dude!! I love stories behind characters. I never knew Tung Fu Rue trained Terry. Hence why Terry is awesome, why I mentioned him, and why I quoted this. Awesome.

Yamazaki feels more like a Yakuza-esque character, E.G. as in "the guy who handles shit to keep people in line."

There should be a Saikoro plugin for Photoshop.

Yeah, me too. All the characters introduced in T6 (arcade, the BR chars are fine) really felt like they lacked backstory and personality and identity to me.

To some extent some of the T5 chars felt that way as well... though maybe that was just Feng.

But I could really do without Feng, Zafina, Miguel, and Leo. Bob's borderline. :|

I held on to Megafan's #1 issue and Tekken 2's characters/bio's are in a section devoted to the awesomeness that is, and was back then.

Comparatively, the earlier Tekkens had phenomenal and grounded storylines. I especially loved the whole Kazuya and Heihachi cliff fiasco: Heihachi drops Kazuya into a ravine as a child to teach him about adulthood. Kazuya returns the favor in the first Tekken (I remember the CGI FMV as if it were yesterday). And then Heihachi usurps Kazyua by dropping him into a Volcano.

Baek used to break bones to watch and experience crowd's reactions. Jack 2 stumbled upon a child during Combat Training exercises. The original King was attempting to save an orphanage and became a drunk in the process, only to have Armour King save him (That mask toss in the opening FMV... timeless). Ganryu had gambling problems. Yoshimitsu's left arm was lost while stealing Jack 2 units... All of this stuff was wild, solid and fresh back in the day. Now we have morbidly obese yet quick fighters in it for the fame. Really!? What the fuck!? I want better storylines!!

Alisa's solid. I can deal with Raven. Asuka's good too. But really, the last really good story we had was in Tekken 4, both Steve's story with finding out he was Nina's kid and the ongoing Marduk/King/Armor King debacle were good enough.

Tekken 6 just... what even was that story mode?
