Oh my oh my :) Order list also ??
Ah, well, the support for this is the same as for Mugen, i.e. VSelect only supports order numbers of 1-10. I never did update it when Mugen 1.0 increased the limit to (I think) 30, because to be honest at the time I never noticed they did this   I believe in Ikemen there is no limit, so I'm not sure how to support this using a list. I guess I could make it configurable, i.e. let the user choose the size of the list.

I keep getting a failed to read required data from mugen.cfg error
I need more info to be able to help. What screenpack are you using? Does it have a mugen.cfg in the data folder? Feel free to PM me and I'll see if I can help get it working.

Does this work in ikemen GO?
Yes, the latest version should work with Ikemen GO, although no Ikemen-specific features are supported (yet). So if you're using the feature that lets you store several characters in the same slot, your select screen won't display properly in VSelect. Something I'd like to fix if I can find time to work on it.

That doesn't seem like it would be a problem though, since Mugen creations are compatible with Ikemen Go? i.e. you could have some team members working only in Mugen while still using Ikemen as the engine for the game.  Unless I'm missing something...

We still have not finished implementing Mugen's 1.1 stagefit.
So that's why it happens

I promise that I'll center on implement letterboxing soon.
Ah that's great, thanks for replying. And by the way, this is the only issue I've found when switching from Mugen, I've been amazed by how well Ikemen Go handles Mugen content (I can only imagine how painful it must have been, especially emulating the way Mugen handles buggy code). Not to mention all the new features which I've only just started to look at. Kudos and thanks for all your hard work.

I have the same issue as Bane84: in Mugen the stage is always shown at its correct aspect ratio, with black bars if this differs from the GameWidth:GameHeight ratio; in IkemenGo the stage is always shown at the GameWidth:GameHeight ratio:

The top two images show a 4:3 stage with Mugen/IkemenGo in 16:9; the bottom two show a 16:9 stage with the game in 4:3.  I'd like an option for IkemenGo to replicate the Mugen behaviour:
  • it means you can have a mixture of stages with different resolutions and they'll all be displayed correctly
  • it allows you to use a screenpack with a different resolution to your stages

set the resolution to a 4:3 format, i use 1280x960 and it should look normal
If you do this you can't use a 16:9 screenpack - the sides of the select screen get cut off.

The stages bug still happens to me unfortunately, nice update overall.
Argh, sorry, you're right, I got sidetracked with the drag/drop problem and missed what you were actually talking about, the menu option has disappeared!  Thanks, I'll upload a fix shortly.

EDIT: I've uploaded a new version which I hope fixes this (let me know if not!)  Link is the same as usual.

I've released another update! Mainly to fix some bugs that crept into the last release:
This is amazing, thank you for the surprise!
I have been re-saving incompatible SFFs in FF3 before, so I hope this new version works as intended.
I am noticing a new error, however.

Some portraits would fail to load, and this error would show when starting up VSelect.

it is just me or l can't included and excluded stages?
These should both now be fixed.  Thank you both for the feedback.  Also general drag&drop performance should be a bit better, so I highly recommend updating.
i always loved using your tool specially when I am making screen pack and need to see the screen, but what if you could make vselect to do more like not just few select screen but also add new feathers like we can view title menu screen, versus, victory screen  and lifebars so we the mugen screen pack creators dont have to force us to close the software every time we have to adjust them, I know you made the program to just see and view select screen, but why stop there why not do the same for all of them not just select screen but victory screen, versus screen, title screen and option screen, so we can make good use of your software, You know how annoying its to have to forces close the mugen software just to second guessing the position but Im just suggesting this to you from a Mugen Creator to another
Interesting idea, a kind of screenpack previewer?  It sounds like a separate tool altogether really, something aimed at creators as opposed to players.  I've thought about it before, at least some tool for visually adjusting the select screen to resize the cells, add rows/columns etc.  I don't know if I really have the free time to work on something like that these days, but never say never.

also i know you said it isn't fully compatible with the ikemen features but i just wanted to note that this happens if you use the slot feature

Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

this is what it should look like

Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
Ahh, thank you for this, yes I see what you mean, that's not really very usable if it's getting the characters in the wrong places.  It's a tricky one, as it's not a very "visual" feature, the ability to have multiple characters share the same slot.  I'd have to think about what kind of user interface would make sense for managing that.

Oh that's interesting, thanks for this, would you mind letting me know one or more of the characters whose portraits aren't loading so I can test them and figure out what's causing the error?  That Psylocke is actually a character I tested with and it works for me, is this maybe a character whose SFF you had previously resaved?  If so maybe you could let me have a copy?  Thanks!

You can do that already:
  • open VSelect and select Options from the File menu
  • on the Advanced tab tick the "use local options file" box and click OK
That should allow you to select a different Mugen exe/motif for each copy of VSelect. Let me know if you have any problems or that's not what you meant.

At long last, a new release :beamgoi:

I finally found the time to dust off the source code and get her up and running again. This is mainly a bugfix release to (hopefully) eliminate the crashes caused by characters encoded by Fighter Factory Studio. So if VSelect has been refusing to start since you added new characters, try this new version. If you still find characters that cause problems (or any other bugs), please let me know.

I've also made the change requested by @K4thos to add basic compatibility with Ikemen Go. If the program can't find a data/mugen.cfg file it will look for save/config.json and load the motif from there instead. No support yet for any of Ikemen's extra features but I'd be interested to look at this in future. Until then I hope this is a useful update :tipshat:

@tunglashor, any chance for small update to your tool that would make it compatible with ikemen go? Here is a post that describes the problem:
https://github.com/Windblade-GR01/Ikemen-GO/issues/292#issuecomment-885426703
(ikemen go has motif path configuration in save/config.json, not data/mugen.cfg)
Thanks for letting me know about this, I'd be glad to make this change but unfortunately I'm not currently able to make updates to VSelect as I no longer have the necessary dev tools installed.  I'll try and find some time this weekend to see if I can get it set up again.  Long term I hope to rewrite it in something sensible like C# or something.

a char with sffv2 will cause Vselect to crash, jz's felicia is an example of that.
Save it over in FF as sff1 and youre good to go.
VSelect doesn't actually have a problem with sffv2, it specifically has a problem with sffv2 files generated by Fighter Factory Studio.  Unfortunately FF Studio writes one particular field incorrectly - Mugen doesn't care but VSelect does.  It's an easy fix if I can get the dev environment up and running again.  Until then, a workaround to keep the sff as v2 is to open it in Fighter Factory 3 (or any other tool) and resave it.

By the way @K4thos your linked post is inaccurate when you say VSelect doesn't support 1.1 SFFs, actually it supported these before Mugen 1.1 was officially released :P Looking into the issue with the Ikemen screenpack I see it's another weird bit of encoding by Fighter Factory - the PNGs in the SFF have been encoded with a Transparency chunk that assigns maximum transparency to every colour in the palette, causing VSelect to render them invisibly  >_<  Obviously Mugen ignores this chunk and so should VSelect.

Also, when I went to test it, when I select any game mode, it closes without error.
This sounds like what I was talking about above.  See if reducing the number of rows/columns makes a difference (obviously that's not a solution but it would show it's the same problem)

This is a really cool idea, I've always wanted custom select sounds  ;D

Unfortunately it crashes my mugen when loading the select screen.  I did some testing and it seems to be caused by the number of cells on the select screen.  You can test it using the default mugen1 screenpack, just make the following change:
Code:
rows = 8
columns = 60
This causes it to crash, whereas setting rows = 7 works fine.  It's nothing to do with any characters, it happens no matter what characters I have on the select screen.

Kinda need help with the announcer, I want to add a char quote from the char SND file, what is the option I need to enable in the hook ?

Because I only use custom ports, I would like to just enable the announcer voice but use char win quotes on selection.

Is there a way to randomize it as well  ? like having 3 samples for 1 char ?
It doesn't work this way unfortunately, it can't read from the character's SND.  Instead you have to add each sound to the system.snd of the screenpack, then update soundAnn.dat to set the sound for each X,Y co-ordinate on the select screen (so if you move a character you have to update this file accordingly).  I assume it's this way because Mugen is only designed to read select screen sounds from system.def, and can't be forced to look elsewhere.

So was it working until recently?  If so my guess would be that you recently updated a character (or possibly you added a new character by editing the select.def) - either way, VSelect is having trouble opening a character present on the select screen.  Some characters contain slight errors in the way they're encoded which Mugen accepts but VSelect is sensitive to.  It's probably something we can work around.  The first step is to figure out which character(s) are causing the problem.  Try commenting out recently added/updated characters from the select.def file by putting a semicolon at the start of the line.  If VSelect starts working, that tells us which character it is.  I can then look into it and work out how to get it working.

Thanks, and what tool are you using to edit the SFF?

If it's Fighter Factory Studio: I know of an issue it has where it writes unexpected values to SFF files that causes VSelect to crash.  I'd fix it but I'm not able to make updates currently (long story).  Editing the file using an earlier version (e.g. Fighter Factory 3) should fix it if that's what's causing it.

Warner's Simpsons/Futurama characters - English versions

I've updated some of Warner's Mugen characters with English voices and some other small animation/sprite tweaks (plus an AI for Leela). Download them here:
ↆ bartman
ↆ bender
ↆ kang
ↆ leela
ↆ marge

Notes:

  • These are based on the latest versions by Warner, which are actually included along with the edited versions: Mugen will automatically use either the English version or the Spanish, depending on the language setting in your mugen.cfg file.
  • The English .snd files have more sounds, so copying them to other versions of the characters won't work, you need the full edited character
  • I know there's an English version of Bender available already, but for the custom intros to work (e.g. with Leela) I recommend getting this version
Have fun
