Capcom's Unfinished Sprites

I just randomly found these unfinished Sprites from Marvel vs Capcom 2 of Hayato and wondered if anyone had anymore unfinished sprites from Capcom? I find it pretty fascinating to see how they seem to work them up from super rough sketches:

To this flat-colour stage:

And then obviously the finished stuff. Is there any more out there hidden away?

Ah, you know what I didn't realise that it was 16 including transparency. If I could be bothered I'd chop out a grey to make it 15... but I can't be bothered.

But thanks for pointing that out :)

After playing Asura's Wrath to death, thought I'd make a quick one:

(16 colours only, because I'm a purist)

You know what's annoying to sprite up nicely? Hands.
But he's just not right with only 2 of them...

I haven't played DOA since DOA3, but are the characters looking more weighted now? They used to feel very floaty, but they look more solid now... bit more like Virtua Fighter funnily enough.

Or is it just me?

I got tired of Dead or Alive at #3, but this seriously peaked my interests. Mostly because of the VF crossover, but also the DOA characters finally look semi-human and it just looks fun!

I'll go and revisit the older games to pick it up again... I'm too stuck in my VF ways.

Seriously hoping there's more than just Akira!

Londo (Power Stone) stage

Hi guys,

Some of you may be aware of the Falcon sprite I'm currently working through (sorry, haven't made as much progress on that as I'd like to) and I wanted to look into creating his 'Londo' stage from Power Stone 1.

I've been working it up and thought I'd run it past you guys in it's current state:

(You can view them & the sprites on my dropbox)

It's been fun to make. I had to swipe out all of the textures from the level and put them back together to this viewpoint by hand. Some kind of pseudo 3D fudging. It was primarily based upon screenshots from the beta Capcom vs SNK, which you can see a comparison below:

That's also showing the level scaled up. It mostly works as-is scaled up, but I'd like to improve some of the textures further.

Anyway, ramble over  :singer:, two quick points to make/ask:
  • The width of the stage is actually quite short. Being a perfectionist, I wouldn't want to make it longer as it's currently pretty accurate to the original. Do you think this will be a problem?
  • I'm a bit usure about the height and if it's necessary? I've got it there, so no harm in keeping it, but will people be able to jump above the tall building??
I'm still wanting to clean up a few bits and make it feel a bit more seamless... but other than that, I'd love to hear your opinion!

Ooh, some action on this topic! Just catching up...

If you guys check his dropbox from time to time, you'll notice he updates pretty often ^_^

Yup! But not often enough... I'll be posting when I hit a big milestone, I'm just chewing through the really boring animations at the moment. Also, as it's my first, I find I'm improving as I go so I'm leaving the exciting ones til the end!

As for requests element, yeah I'm basically doing this for fun and not intending to do others at the moment. Saying that, I'm really open to your suggestions on the moves. I've got a few planned, so I might sketch some out at some point to get opinions.

Apart from that, I might have a look at doing his "Londo" level from Power Stone 1. I don't know if you guys remember seeing some beta screenshots of Capcom vs SNK 1, but it was a level in that beta:

(Taken from here: http://www.unseen64.net/2010/10/16/capcom-vs-snk-arcade-dreamcast-beta/)

...Any excuse to play PowerStone, I guess? ;)

Hi guys,

Thought I'd give this an update. I haven't been able to work on it for some time, but Christmas holidays helped me move on a bit. I'm working through them fairly methodically, so I've chewed through a few boring animations. Regarding move-sets, I'm still planning those but I have some in mind now. I'm going to avoid generic PowerStone actions (like throwing/using items) in case I/anyone else ever feel the need to make more PowerStone characters.

You can view on the same link as before:

See the full set on my DropBox

I was saving off my last animation progress as I went so I thought it might be interesting to quickly run through the way I do it:

1. Start with a stickman:

They're easy to animate, so I use them to perfect the animation before getting into detail. I've put in a static head and body as a starting point here as they're not really going to be moving much. I'm not going to lie, I borrowed a bit from Jill's MVC2 walking animation to get the right structure for his legs.

2. Block colour the animated parts.

Again before setting in the detail, I wanted to make sure the shapes were roughly the right size/shape and look right when animated. (He totally looks like a raptor with the stick arms.)

3. Add detail!

Once the blocked shapes all make sense, then you can add detail! In the case of Falcon here, there are some more fun details that really make it such as the floating scarf and the floppy hair.

Don't know if that's any use/interest but thought I'd post it up as I had them ready!

Thanks for the great feedback so far guys - there's some great ideas for move sets in there already, so I'm going to look into those - thanks! I completely forgot about Alfred Airhawk, so he's going to be a good starting point I think. I'll be posting them up as I go.

In response to the questions:

MrM said:
are you going to set the transformation up only if the move/s hit or just go through the move with supper armour ?
Sorry I realise I wrote special instead of super move in my description. I intend for the super moves to be his transformations. The idea being he'll transform and do the move, then return instantly - so you can't play as the transformed version.

MrM said:
do you want vids of the transformation?
I've got some already, but thanks anyway!

Yes, that's me :) something a bit different, might post it on DA later as well.

Edward Falcon (Power Stone) CVS Style

Hi guys,

My first post here, so apologies if this is in the wrong place (pretty sure it is correct...). Anyway, I randomly decided it would be fun to recreate Power Stone's Falcon into the Capcom vs SNK style sprites (my personal favourites).

I've got a bundle of simple animations coming together, but it'll be great to hear what you think:

See the full set on my DropBox

More importantly, I'm struggling with a moves list that I would really like for him. I've got the basic punch and kicks taken from the original game, but what about special moves?

I've got his special moves planned, the two types of Power Fusion attacks he has. So he'll need to transform kind of like Megaman in Marvel vs Capcom.

Still, lots more to go. I'll probably end up tweaking some of those as I'm not 100% happy with some of the animation, but you get the idea.
