Hi all, several years ago on another website I uploaded a crude 720p version of glassbox's Alpha Storm Beta 2 screenpack that I made from his original Winmugen version. For the longest time I wanted to make a 1080p version to fix some of the errors, and I was finally able to do it.

There's only one reason to have a 1080p screenpack when playing a fighing game that mostly still uses low-res sprites, and that's to showcase high-res artwork in the selection screen. The screenpack is designed for HD images to be used for the character selection screen and VS screen, as well as high-res icons. The icons are 50x50 pixels, and the selection poster images are designed to be 700 pixels in height. While a 1080p screenpack could support more, sometimes it's hard to find high-res images of some characters so this is a compromise for now. I might change it later.

The 720p version of this screenpack used the original fonts (Fnt v1) made by glassbox, but they didn't always appear correctly in the selection screen and were unnecessarily small. So for this 1080p version I've ditched them and went with Truetype fonts that seemed appropriate for the screenpack. One thing I'm still considering is whether to change the font for the menu, or to try to resize glassbox's original menu font. I'm having trouble making a resize work since everything I do causes the font to not appear at all. So I might just stick with a truetype font.

One other difference with the 720p version and the 1080p version: I added flying grass to the screenpack's screens, based on a preview of an unreleased version of this pack glassbox was making for Mugen 1.1. His unreleased version inspired me to continue with this version.

I also converted my version of the Valkyrie Profile lifebar to 1080p, and fixed the fonts on that as well.

Based on all of these fixes, I might do an Ikemen version of this screenpack/lifebar as well.

Since this 1080p screenpack is designed to highlight character art, I plan on uploading a bunch of properly sized hand cropped high-res artwork for many, many characters. I'll probably have to upload several packs since I'm still working on all of my character art, which I've grabbed from all over the internet.

Here is the screenpack using the original menu font.  As you can see it's small and needs to be larger.  I cannot get it to work, despite extracting the sprite, resizing it in GIMP, and redoing the font in Font Factory with the appropriate size.



I'd appreciate feedback on the menu font, whether to go with the TrueType version or to continue to try to resize the originals.  If I ever make an Ikemen version of this screenpack, I'll probably just go with the TrueType font anyway.
