Sarutobi Sasuke was a legendary ninja, one of the 10 braves of Sanada. A big bunch of old ninja stories are based on him.

Several names ending with "maru".
Differentiated by the beginning. Ex: Orichimaru.
Prefix snake

Because maru is a common male name suffix. Just like suke, nosuke, ichirou, jirou, shirou, tarou, maro, ichi, ji. Or ko for girls. Those are the most common ones, there are like a ton of gender-specific name suffix like that. That's not just anime, that's Japanese.
Orochimaru and his snake, Jiraiya and his toad, and Tsunade and her slug are three characters taken on another Japanese legend (tales of the galant Jiraiya). The Orochimaru in this one was named after Orochi (which is written with the kanjis for "giant snake"). There's a huge crapton of references to Chinese and Japanese mythology in Naruto (that's the only point I like in it).
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.
