I want to know if it's possible to have mugen check a characters' file and see if they have a certain number of sprites--"not animation" within an index, and if they don't, have it trigger another animation? Basically, have it so if they're missing certain sprites for a grab or combo, the system checks and reverts to another animation you specify.

I feel like this is too good to be true, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Cyanide

It is. No can do. Can't check for sprites directly. Only animations.

In M.U.G.E.N there is no magic button

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

You can always use the authorname trigger if you can find a common pattern in the sprites indexasion of certain chars, that or a cheat changeanim2 with normal "hurt by throw" sprites to you custom grab. Figuring a way to make characters compatible with one another is the fun part.
