Assert Failure in Input-lb.c line 99

I'm getting an Assert Failure in Input-lb.c line 99 on several MUGEN games.  Several others work fine, though.

I'm new and this is my first post.  I tried researching this topic all over this forum and Google and have seen plenty of others with the problem, but no real answers as to a solution.

I've tried restarting my machine which was suggested to one person but other than that, I really don't know what else to try.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've figured something out, but still have no resolution.

When I change joystick input from disabled to enabled then relaunch the game, I sometimes then get this error message and can't get back into the game.

If there is a way, outside of the game, to disable joystick, since I set up and used Joy2Key anyway for use with my Xbox 360 pads, then maybe I can use the games and won't get the error, but how would I do that?
