Hello to all,i want to gather information as much as i can in this thread about Capcom's sprites. What could be the reason that Capcom re-used lots of previous game sprites instead of making newer one's from scratch? Is this duo the limit of spriters, is it duo strategy or is it because of something else? Some examples here: Marvel VS Capcom has some new original sprites that werent in previous games. Captain Commando, Megaman, Roll, Jin Saotome, Strider Hiryu, were all new and sprites from scratch. They were later used on the sequal MVC2 game. Ryu was reused with a little spriting for the Akuma and Ken Mode's. Other than that, he was a color swap that made him look more comic styled with the Marvel Characters. Chunli, Morrigan and Zangief were reused.Capcom VS SNK had lots of reused sprites aswell. The shoto's were sprited from scratch and same for Characters like MBison. Again, no new sprites for Chunli, Cammy, Morrigan, Blanka, Vega, Sagat, Guile, EHonda etc.Capcom VS SNK 2 had newer sprites and more Characters in the roster like MVC2. We saw Maki, Eagle and Kyosuke as newer Characters. The only difference was that they converted SF3 Chunli and Yun to the CVS standars. So they were not new and sprites from scratch actually.Till now, the Characters that never appeared in VS games couldnt even have a chance to get newer sprites but the one's that appeared were mostly re-used. Capcom Fighting Jam was a total copy and paste work. They did small editing in the faces and all. See Guy and Zangief as example. There were only newer Midnight Bliss sprites for everyone because of Demitri using that super move. The only new Character that appeared in this game was Ingrid. What are your toughts on this?
I was talking about it before, not only are the shading styles different, but also the scales, a character that is 6 feet in one game is the same size as a 5 footer from another one.

Your saying just because the sprites are in a similar pose that they are just a "simple conversion"? How else would you expect them to look?Cyan Paul said, April 15, 2009, 05:21:59 amDJ Track said, April 15, 2009, 12:16:47 amHello to all,i want to gather information as much as i can in this thread about Capcom's sprites. Anyway, the answer is pretty obvious. They did not redraw the sprites because that would require more time and money.

SFA shotos/Chun-Li/Bison would look too chubby next to the other characters, but Blanka, Zangief etc look fine enough (and several of those sets only had like two years, and one game appearance).
Morrigan was always the first choice to be in VS games. She is also the main Character. MVC2 had more Characters from that but i think that the other Characters from Darkstalkers were more off style to match the others in other VS games. QuoteThis bugs me a lot. Well atleast not us but, alot of people could think that.
Someone here used to have a sig "The Evolution of Morrigan." ... yeah you can imagine what it would look like.FUN FACT: TvC uses Morrigan's 15 year-old bat sprites in her winpose.
