I was thinking of designing Shinobi from Shinobi 3 - Return of the ninja Master. I know ther is a way to obtain the sprites from a PC game (tutorial), but is it the same with obtaining the sprites from a ROM? or do i have to tweak the emulator a bit?  o_O

If there is anything else i need to know before i get started on this character or any advice, that would be much appreciated.

Peace  :sugoi:

If the emulator allows to remove backgrounds and other objects easily, you should use that to rip sprites easily.

Otherwise, you can try using Artmoney. There's a huge tutorial on this forum (interactive artmoney tutorial) in the tips and tutos section.

thanks, i got my sprites. Now, i know this is a question thats probably evrywhere in the other sections of the forum, but what FREE programs would you recommend to edit sprites etc? I dont want to torrent PSP for example as i dont want to risk the chance of the torrent being tracked. If there are any, would u be kind enough to provide a link or tell me where i can get it from?

Thanks

To just edit sprites, you can use paint or paint.NET as very basic programs.

To take care of the palettes though, you'll need a program such as Photoshop or PSP.
Lucky for you, there's a free open source one out there : the gimp. 8)

gfx gale is made for sprite editing, though it does not support pcx files natively, you can use other program to do the conversion.

k i got my sprites through google, so all the sprites are together in one image. How do i make this into an SFF file? am i supposed to separate each sprite in the image and then save them as a pcx file or something? im so confused o_O

Bastard Mami

copy each individual sprite and paste it in a separate file.

im going to have around 100 files then of just sprites? woah i really underestimated this character creation thing...

Bastard Mami

yeah, and later you join them in a single sprite file that is specific for mugen.

T_T im separating this one only to join them up later...

I'm wondering what is the best tool for making the original graphics on a character file. I have both Adobe and Corel on my computer..those who know about art and drawing know what Adobe and Corel stand for. I plan to make my character based on a certain other character but the graphics will be very different.(as in..the character I am making would have been trained under the other character story wise and move wise but have his own moves as well) I have alot of various mugen characters and versions. I need to know what program is best to use to draw the 150+ images that then become merged into one file. I do not plan to rip off other peoples work sprite edits etc..rather..I will make my own from scratch as an artist. I am somewhat new to the actual character making process but not new at all to using playing or editing the text files within mugen itself.(I've been into mugen since the first day it was on elecbytes old site.)
