Hello, everyone! My name is The Devil - Type Unknown. And I'm currently working on a very special project called "House of the Dead: Mugen Edition." Yep, you heard right! I'm working to create a Mugen Game based on my all-time favorite Arcade game, The House of the Dead! ;D

Background Info: This idea of mine to create a HOTD fighting started way back in late 2006/early 2007. It was originally intended to be made with Flash, but unfortunately, I wasn't geting much help in some of the development areas. So, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to switch over to Mugen, since I'd heard some good stuff about it recently.

To prove that I'm working on this project, here are some newer screenshots of the stages that will be used in my game. I apologize in advance for only having Kung Fu Man in these screenshots because he's all I have right now in terms of characters. I used Cybaster's Automatic Stage Creation tool to remake these stages, so these new screenshots are as color-loss-less as they're going to get.

This is the Magician's Balcony stage. I am using this stage WITH PERMISSION from Kori-Maru, the stage's original creator. The only modification I did to the stage is that I replaced the background music(The Magician's theme from HOTD1 for PC/Saturn), with the Arcade version of the same song. I also did this with permission from Kori-Maru. This was the only stage I couldn't remake with the Stage Creation tool, due to me being unable to get the source image from Kori-Maru(he said he had a PC crash a while back that may have deleted it).

This is the Goldman Building Rooftop stage. I made this one myself.

This is my homemade Virtual Dimension stage(the place where you battle The Wheel of Fate in HOTD3), I made this one myself.

This is the Abandoned Subway stage, which I made myself(since HOTD4 isn't coming to consoles, I had to use this one from the SNES game Final Fight, which looks ok, if you ask me).

This is the Goldman Building Foyer stage, which I made myself.

This is the Goldman Building Courtyard stage, which I am using, and managed to remake WITH PERMISSION from Kori-Maru, the stage's original creator.

This is the Goldman Building Exterior stage, which I made myself.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: This stage is NOT to be confused with the Goldman Building Courtyard stage, which was originally done by Kori-Maru.

Characters:
This game is going to star some of the more human-shaped boss monsters from the House of the Dead series as playable characters. Each one will be unique in its own way in terms of fighting. The creatures I had in mind are:

1. Magician Type 0 (first incarnation, from HOTD1)
2. The Emperor (from HOTD2)
3. The Wheel of Fate, a.k.a. Curien (from HOTD3)
4. The Empress (from HOTD4)
5. The Star (from HOTD4)
6. The World -  Form 3 (from HOTD4 & HOTD EX)*
7. Magician Type 0 (second incarnation, from HOTD2)*

Note: An asterik means that this creature is a boss in this game as well as the game it originated from.

Progress:

Stages: UPDATE 1 -  Now starting Color loss removal on the Rooftop Stage.

UPDATE 2 - Color loss removal on the Rooftop stage is complete. Only 4 stages remain.

UPDATE 3 - Color loss removal on the Virtual Dimension Stage AND the Abandoned Subway stage is complete. Only 2 stages remain.

UPDATE 4 - Color Loss removal on the Goldman Building Foyer Stage is finished. Only one stage remains.

UPDATE 5 - I managed to get permission from Kori-Maru to to fix up the color loss in his Goldman Building Courtyard and Magician's Balcony stages. I was also able to get the source image for the Courtyard stage as well(I didn't get the source image for the Balcony stage because Kori-Maru told me it was deleted in a PC crash he had a while back). After I'm done with fixing the Courtyard Stage, only the Goldman Building Exterior stage, made by me, will be left.

UPDATE 6 - All stages except the Magician's Balcony Stage(was unable to get source image from Kori-Maru) have been remade using Cybaster's Automatic Stage Creation Tool. Which means that all color loss problems for those stages have been fixed. Newer screenshots of those stages have replaced the older ones earlier up in this post.

Characters: This is where I need help. As far as I can tell, no one has ever done any sprites and/or characters from the House of the Dead series for Mugen. If anyone is willing to make the sprites for the creatures listed above, I'll be most grateful. I'll tell you what actions I'm looking for in my next post if someone responds.

"I will show you, our new ruler, The Emperor!"

"Protect the laife cycle!"

To Z4KaR1 & Demon Spawn: I appreciate the feedback, but unfortunately these stages are the best that Kori-Maru & I could come up with. Sorry. But I think I may be able to remedy the color loss problem(I hope).

To Randomish & rukifellth: I'm sorry to break it to you, but I'm afraid I have no plans to put Agent G or Goldman in the game as playable characters. :(

HotD is emulated. Rip via that. Or redraw the stages by hand, they'll look way cooler than what you have currently. It's better to take your time and come up with some quality stuff rather than rushing things.

How would I "rip from an emulator?" What kind of computer program would I need? I'm sorry if I sound totally clueless.

I've already got it on my PC. In fact I've had the Model 2 Emulator for a couple of years now. :)

I DO know what ripping is; I just didn't know if I needed to use some special computer program together with the emulator. Sorry for not being more specific.

Most emulators allow for screen capture functions, and some even allow for layer disabling. Check out if via artmoney you could leave only 'shootable' stuff visible and render backgrounds invisible (not sure if possible, but what the heck), or if you can enter a 'debug' kinda gallery mode. KoF has that.
Glad to see you know what you are doing :), most people announcing fullgames don't know how to rip a sprite, much less have any idea into what they are getting into. :P

To Randomish: Check near the bottom of the first post on this topic and you'll see who I plan to put in my game.

To Lasombra Demon: I tried using the ArtMoney shortly after you posted yesterday, and it seems the Model2 Emulator doesn't show up in the Emulators menu when I use the "Search for Emulators" option. I also couldn't find the zero address for the Model2 Emulator anywhere. Plus, I don't think there is a debug mode for HOTD1 on the Model2 Emulator, because like I said, I've had the Emulator and the HOTD1 Arcade ROM on my PC for a few years now. If there was a debug mode for it, I would definitely have discovered it by now.

Awesome :o

A house of the Dead mugen game thats a great idea :sugoi: I wish you luck with this project I love those games personally it will be great to see characters from those games in mugen :)

I for one will be looking forward to this :sugoi:

and just a bit of an idea maybe you could use Resident evil characters as sprite bases for some of the characters since some of the characters are simlar like the zombies and Tyrant might be a good base for Magician Type 0 I always thought they looked simlar just an idea 8)

Good luck anyway you Devil he he ;D ;) hope this project pulls through and sees the light of day :)

Hey guys, There's something I need to tell you. Because of the feedback I got about my Mugen Stages being blurry and full of color loss, I have decided to redo the ones I made. But this time I'll also be getting rid of as much of the color loss as possible. It's gonna take some time(a couple of weeks at least), but it will be done. Then I'll post new screenshots in a fresh, new thread titled "House of the Dead Mugen project(improved stages)! Spriters needed." Is this Ok with you guys, that I make a new thread after I'm done fixing the stages?

I personally think this thread is enough. Plus, 2 weeks is not really all that much for a fullgame project. Picture (at least) 2 years as the whole project development span... and get ready for that.

What I meant to say was: It's going to take around 2 weeks to get rid of the color loss on all of my stages, NOT finish the entire game.
