I found a sprite collection of Maya from Killer Instinct 2.
She's one of my personal favorites from one of my favorite games so I decided to put her in Mugen.
Right now she's about 70% done. I need to add collision boxes to her Super moves and redo her hit reaction boxes.
She has no sounds because I havent been able to find any for her. If anyone can locate some sounds for Maya and link me that'd be awesome.

I started work on this character before I found out KI3 was coming out for the 360b. Seeing KI3..... yeah she needs to be in Mugen.

SHE IS NO WAY A COMPLETE CHARACTER. Maya is playable, but isn't in the style of KI 1 or 2. This is an Alpha for release for a dead project.
If you'd like to ask for changes, please do. I'll consider working on her. But until I get a good rip so I can make palettes, I dont have the real desire to finish her myself.

I started her as a scaled character because compared to capcom chars and the like she's a giant. I have her scaled to 89% and she looks decent. Because she only has 1 projectile I dont see any issues with scaling in the future.

The sprites I found were of her in her yellow outfit so there's ZERO color separation. I have managed to make 2 halfway crappy looking pallets for her though.

She is missing some animations. I think her win animation, lose, and the one where she calls out the elephant arent there. Some more are probably missing.

Right now her fighting style/system isnt from KI2 or KI. It's basic mugen/ my style. I might try to use the Jago or Kim Wu as a base for a KI2 fight system. She doesnt have pop-up combos or anything right now. It's just jump-in, connect combos. I'm not sure which way I want to go exactly.

Here's some progress pics. You can see one pallet change.

Any suggestions or requests are welcome.

Progress with Maya is coming to a completion/stop. I cant find her sounds ripped and Im not sure how to do it myself.
I have almost 100% of her moves animated. I have the effects of her blades placed.
I do have the 3 animations I was missing, including the elephant.

Since there's no real demand for this character I might release her without the sounds.

Just saw this project, I would be interested to see Maya!

As you may know, Orbinaut released a few very good KI2 characters.  According to his readme, he used the sprite and sound ripping tutorials by kofelsalvador10th, which were available here.  Unfortunately the links appear to be down, but you may want to contact either Obrinaut or kofelsalvador10th or put in a request to see if anyone still has the files.

Good luck with your project!

If the links are down you can use Web Archive to dig the pages.

Wayback Machine doesn't have that page archived.
LAAAAME!!!

Thanks for pointing those out. For now I'm just stealing the sounds from Mr I /Orbinaut's characters for the base sounds. Maya's a little weird sounding like Sabrewulf :P

I might make her play my type of fighting. I've created a couple sprites for her. I think one was for her air block.
I'm thinking of adding in that backwards punch that was never used in KI2.
Right now I have a project going on that's taking more of my focus, but it's well worth it.
That said I have been working on Maya and right now I'm creating the system so she knows where the attacks are coming from and can do the proper block animation.  She can be crouching and guard for an air attack, mid attack, or a low attack. Same for her standing animations. I just have to make it work. I have a proof of concept going, which is nice.

I've uploaded what crappy version of Maya I've made.
If people are interested I'll work on her. I've just forgotten about her over the years. So why not post this so someone else can pick it up and make her better if they want.

I agree. I hope you continue work on Maya. She was my favorite from KI2 as well. Did you say that KI3 is supposed to be coming to the 360?! Did I miss something? Anyway, would interesting if you would pick up a project I saw randomly on Youtube once...someone was working on a concept of making other characters play like KI/KI2. In the video they had made Ryu into a KI character and, as much as I HATE that damn posterboy, this project looked awesome! Not sure if you have the know-how or will to do so, but if you are looking for inspiration or ideas, just giving you something to think about. If nothing else, though, I hope you decide to work more on Maya. Were you the one who released Jago and Kim Wu awhile back? If so, they were amazing and fun to play as. They really felt like KI to me so, if so, I hope you continue to make Maya in that vein.
