First of all, the usual JJBA setup for Mugen is like this:
X = weak attack (appears as L in the chart)
Y = medium attack (M)
Z = strong attack (H)
A = turn stand on/off (S)
There's also dodge ("roll") by pressing B (B also counts as "A+A", i.e. instead of doing D,DB,B+A+A you can just do D,DB,B+B).

On the right of the move chart you have the prerequisites (sp?) for the move in question, depending on the positions of the dots. Basically, to use a move that has a dot under "ON" you need to have your stand on & vice versa. Moves under the "EX" header can only be used in EX mode (hold down start during selecting the character). Also, in case you're wondering, Checkmate Da in normal mode is usable only during timestop (marked by triangles instead of dots).
14 characters.

A means press any attack, i.e. L, M or H.

Some moves may have slightly different functionality depending on which attack button you press. (like D,DF,F+L will have a shorter duration than D,DF,F+M, which is again shorter than D,DF,F+H, etc.) And if you want to do A+A without having to press B, you press any 2 attack buttons at the same time.
