Well, the title says it all I'm willing to pay a spriter for CVS style oni sprites. Now in light of the situation that happened with a recent commission (Kain R.) I think its fair to say that I do not want to pay fully upfront. I know sprites can be expensive and I'm willing to throw 500 to whatever bucks all at once for that reasoning. I will however be willing to make monthly payments to whoever is willing to take on this task. I'm not expecting him to be done in 2 months but I don't want em to take 2 years either you know? So with that being said, are there any CVS spriters that can agree to these terms? Or we could compromise on something, I'm dying to have this guy in mugen I'm pretty sure a couple other people are as well, I'll pay whatever a sprites wants me to pay just understand my terms and why I'm doing it this way, so with that being said, Any takers?
$500 US is pretty low, and most commissioners require upfront payment. The good news is that most of the spriters here are pretty dependable to get the job done (although their workload might be backlogged a bit)
there are Chuchoryu's Oni sprites but those aren't that close to CvS. They're more like a halfway point from Alpha(CPS2) to CvS. You'd have to see but yes I think a CvS Oni would be amazeballs
Yeah I know 500 is low I was just throwing something out there, idk about doing upfront payments mom just willing to give someone a grand upfront and them just run off, giving someone 200 bucks or so a month with seeing constant progress is just ideal to me at the moment I just don't feel comfortable after that incident@slenderman even if someone could edit chuchos sprites to a beautiful CVS style would be nice seeing as there is already a base
you can't expect to see constant progress though. People have lives outside of Mugen and spriting. Jobs to go to, girlfriends, wives, family, funerals you name it. You can't possibly think someone won't have things that get in the way.
No no no I don't mean constant as in everyday there's new sprites I know people have lives I just don't wanna see like 2-3 month hiatuses you know?
I think 500 up front for a certain amount of work and payments to do further work is actually pretty reasonable. If the spriter is a BS artist or just doesn't finish you haven't lost quite as much. You've lost a lot, but less than paying $2000 straight off and having the person do a bunch of line art then give up.
Just to note he paid up front for Kain R and that Sprite artist vanished with the money. That explains why he'd be more willing to do $200 a month with some sort of progress each month.
Chucho isn't bad I just think his work needs to be refined. considering the speed he does sprites and all I think if they were refined he'd be a killer sprite artist.
Yes the dude just took off with his money that's sad buy I digress, 500 upfront and monthly payments sounds more than reasonable for payment for whoever takes on the task
Hatter's commission thread got me thinking. Not a lot of spriters do full characters and the ones that do seem to be pretty tied up already. What may be able to work for you is a slow build. Hire Hatter to make the stance. Be up front and tell him you would like other animations but he can stop at any time. Once you have the stance go to other single animation artists. Some only do single sprites. Have them make one too. It may be a longer process and become more expensive but it might work. As long as each person can replicate the sprites before them well and animation.
well if you can get the animations from the 3D version and have someone convert them it might be a lil quicker. I found the original gif to this animation on google images and shrunk it down to a smaller size. I find it's the best animation for his stance. I also took some of the original frames out to equal what would be akin to how many frames a standard CvS Shoto would have. I'm no pro spriter but you can at least get your spriter the base.
the stance doesn't seem solid in his but if you were to resize the original sprites along with the gif I posted you could probably start coding him with that until your spriter finished his work converting them all. I thought of spriting him myself but I'm not a fast spriter so I gave up on that idea.
the sprites wouldn't be uniform in that case. I'm no pro at all. You'd have to get a better CvS spriter to do it. CvS the Abstract's Gouken was awesome and the sprites got upgraded by Benhazard which made em look more solid and crisp.
