Conversation somewhat related to the IORI VS MELTY BLOOD discussion in Jmorphman's thread.

ITT Faboyism attack, state why you like your favorite character(s)

I'm a Iori fan because in the KOFZ he was boss. He had an anti-hero attitude, with full on protaginst strength and he fucking revived back from death. KOFZ was tied to KOF99/2K in which sadly Iori wasn't his most interesting self, but still KOFZ expanded the KOF mythos of Iori being ultra badass, at least for me.

Also, I've always wanted to make a small Storyboard of him actually playing in a rock band, since he's actually a musician, although it confuses me - They say his stance was made with him playing the saxophone in mind, yet all of the artworks depict him as being a bass player.

I have a lot of favorites, and explaining why is definitely not my strong point.
Ryu
Ken
Gouki/Akuma
Scorpion
Sub-Zero
Liu Kang
Raiden
Ermac

I have more, but I'll leave it at that.

Somehow Baraka from the Mortal Kombat game series is a big favourite fighting game character of me. I guess back when i was 14 it was just something damn cool to play like such a weird character and use those blades at the arms for special moves which put out a lot of blood...that + his fatalitys amde him something special for me around 15 years ago. His MK 4 degin was pretty pretty weak though and his return in MK Deception wasnt that... cool too.

Beside his loser role in the story mode he is pretty nice to play in the latest MK though.

Other characters i like a lot are Geese Howard, Terry Bogard, Amakusa and Gen An from Samurai Shodown. Capcoms Street Fighters were, are and always will be boring for me for the most parts i guess..

WARNING, ESSAY INCOMING.

A lot of people ask me "WHY U LIEK AKUMA HE SO BORING SHOTO LOLZ PLAY LOW TEERZ LIKE TWELVE HE KOOL" from time to time.  Well, for starters, I like Akuma's play style a lot.  The mixups, the vast move pool, the pressure, the vortex, the do-or-die attitude you have to have while playing him.  There's really nothing more satisfying than watching your opponent frantically try to predict your next move or strategy.  People who think Akuma is some kind of easy spammer than anyone can just pick up and play are retarded, and probably suck at fighting games too.

Another thing I like about Akuma is how well his fighting style matches his character.  Being all up on some dark hadou shit, it makes sense that he'd have more options and less health, right?  Well when you're fighting this guy using forbidden karate that can kill you in a few blows, the pressure is gonna be on.  That's where Akuma's mix ups and pressure tactics come in.  You're gonna sweat fighting a good Akuma, just like Ryu probably sweated when fighting Akuma in the actual canon.

I also have a lot of respect for Akuma's character and the longevity of it.  Think of this, Akuma started the Marvel vs series with his appearance in Children of the Atom.  Akuma was the first "hidden" boss character.  Akuma was real-life Sheng Long for a little bit.  He's got this mysterious, badass, scary aura about him that just makes him able to show up anywhere for any reason and nobody can complain.  He's the one Street Fighter that doesn't seek money, fame, protection of a loved one, justice, revenge what have you.  He wants a challenge, a fight to the death.  That just strikes me as awesome, since when I play fighting games I hope for a good challenge myself.

I like shotos in general, but Akuma stands out most to me because he has a unique playstyle and is just a badass character.  I'm glad he's as popular as he is, cause I get to play as him in more games.  Fans love him, competitive players love him, Capcom loves him.  To some people he may be this "overrated" dark and edgy relic of the 90s, but hate him all you want cause he isn't going anywhere.

I also like Scorpion a lot, a character with a similar "dark and edgy" kind of thing going for him.  Scorpion was my favorite MK character when I was a kid cause I thought he was cool, and when I got older and learned more about his story I liked him even more cause he was portrayed in a more sympathetic, but still badass light.  He's a lot more mature as a character now, but still retains that cornball cheesiness we love about him.

I like pretty much all the popular characters in KOF.  All the heroes, Athena, Kula, the Ikari Warriors.  I guess I just love the variety and uniqueness of the KOF designs.  They've all got their own stylish mannerisms and unique aura.  There are very few KOF characters I actively dislike, but generally the ones I like the most are the popular ones.

In Tekken I use Jin, but that's more because I wanted someone "easy" to use and picked him.  I found out he wasn't as easy as I thought he would be , but as a character he grew on me a lot after Tekken 4 when he started to break out on his own as opposed to being Kazuya 2.0.

Generally a lot of the characters I like are very popular, with a handful of cult favorites here and there.

Reptile is not a boss in MK1.

Exactly the same happens to me in both KOF and Tekken. Jin is my favourite character overall (But I hate Devil Jin's design, ugh) and in KOF I like almost all of the characters, and some of them I don't like in the usual KOF are far better in other media like KOFMI (I like how Seth looks like in that game).

In SF, most of the chars I found boring are totally awesome for me now in SFIV. I even started to play with boxer 2 weeks ago, a char I found boring in the past (I guess it's because of the lack of varied voice samples and shitty sprites in Alpha).

...Well I still hate Honda and Momoko :P

Itt be a fanboy?
I guess I can try.

SO JEDAH, YEAH, JEDAH, first he is a Lord, not some measly gentleman or even back alley sir, a LORD, then there is his whole convoluted backstory where in his own way he kills himself to save the universe ( or rather, ozomu the gourmet tricks him)  Ozomu takes his place and starts commanding his armies, which is a nice tidbit of backstory that fits perfectly, then the universe, that has been by then defined as an entity. tires of all the bloodshed. So, get this straight, this universe he saved, now has a ton of life but there is a ton of blood shed as well? Thats pretty gruesome, but what is this? The universe decides to revive the fucker. "hey you died for me once, save me again." and what does jedah do? He gets up and gets to saving the universe, by deconstructing it so that no one else dies and is instead all united as one as the God universe brought back to life, he literally goes out and starts stiching up souls together to prevent them from dying in an effort to recreate God, thats pretty badass.
So you got a makai savior, dying for their sins and coming back to save them all into eternal life, thats just fucked up, its the kind of twisted stereotype ive come to expect from Darkstalkers.
And his style? wings floating separated from his body, scythe, long jacket, maniacal cackle, he gots it all.

The worse part is that I could do this for most of the characters of that series.
