i don't really think most people saying 2016 AUGH are coping with anything because they're not really that sad about that particular celebrity death. the impression i get from people that post that is that they heard about a celebrity death and rushed to their device to post on social media about how bad 2016 is, because it's the thing to do. maybe even take that chance to make the current event about themselves, about the bad things that happened to them, like "geez carrie fisher died! 2016 is so bad! my cat also died!". or lumping that person with the other people that died that year, or just things they didn't like from that year such as the results of the american election. anything but saying something halfway meaningful about the person that passed away, or at least sharing any kind of trivia or quote. i find it really disrespectful

I'm fine with the evil 2016 meme when it's discussed among friends casually but when that's brought up to a thread that's supposed to be about a particular person's death it feels awkward and silly. As if people were just following a meme flowchart instead of actually talking about the person the thread is dedicated to.

I'm kinda biased though because I really don't give a damn about celebs dying nor it would ever affect me that much (I'm rather apathetic to the death of people who wouldn't give a shit about me to begin with). The actor I would even care the most about is probably Schwarzenegger since his movies were a great deal of my childhood, and even then I don't feel like I would ever post in a thread about his death since I have nothing meaningful to say about that (I never even learned how to write his last name ).
