I like honorifics if I'm watching subs because it does things that I feel that taking them out just won't do.  For example, I just finished watching the entirety of Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's and whenever Crow would refer to himself as "sama" the subs would show it as "the great me," which I don't think I need to explain to you guys because it's grammatically retarded.  But in things like the Persona games I could definitely do without the honorifics.  They just feel tacked on to appease the hardcore otaku fans.

ROBIN-SAMA IS OUR NAKAMA

THOSE ARE SOME EXPENSIVE BASSHU* (translator's note, Basshu is "Basketball shoes")

I hate honoriffics, and I hate that companies like Viz and Tokyopop are pandering to idiots that gobble them up more and more.

learn English honorifics, then. It's not hard. You already did the same for Japanese ones. Leaving in honorifics is absolutely absurd, it shouldn't be tolerated

I woudl but most translator say that honorifics and idioms amongst otehr thigns are fuckign dfifficult to translate, as there is not even a cultural equivalent to them and translating equals to rewriting.

FeckFace

Seeing as how the J-honorifics are getting sillier to me in "When The Seagulls Cry," I just think of their English equivalents and read the dialogue with them.
Take the way anyone calls Battler "Battler-kun."
Whenever I see that in text, I just think of "Batty-boy" or "Battykins" or "Battman" and reread the dialogue with those names.
I love to do it with George, because I read his words in Jason Alexander's voice.
It's my kind of goofy fun.

Oh, and George is refered to George-sama, I refer to him as Brotha George or Bro-Jo.

Translating necessarily requires rewriting. Leaving honorifics in doesn't help what the original author is trying to say across any more than adding elaborate karaoke lyrics to songs does.

I hate it especially when certain stuff (honorifics and what nots) are translated, but they choose to put it as an explanation rather than putting in the subs:

Foobs

all according to keikaku

LurkerSupreme

Not exactly the same thing, but I remember watching a sub where someone decided to not use pronouns at all and just use the characters names instead. That made it seem like everyone was refering to themselves in third person and it annoyed the help out of me.

UFC Fighter Learned Skills From Playing Tekken
"As you may know, fundamentals of real fighting and martial arts can be applied in certain fighting games, such as Tekken. In this mini video documentary on Uriah Hall, Uriah reveals that he originally learned some of his skills by playing Tekken. Uriah stated that he would take characters into Practice Mode, and watch their moves until he saw techniques he liked. He would later practice those techniques and use them in his MMA training. The rest of the documentary gives some interesting insight on Uriah's journey as a professional MMA fighter."
