these awards sound really cool, but what do you actually get for winning the gold awards?

(See my signature).  I got the award last year, but had no idea I won it until much, much later.  o_O

All instances of SeanAltly are mispelled. Take that in mind before making the banners.
You can help with Ikemen GO's development by trying out the latest development build and reporting any bugs on GitHub.
My Mugen and Ikemen content can also be found here.

What if you didnt want to participate
in this?

i knew i wasnted liked
but this proved it..........

dante and sean are srtill demos/betas

and gouken getting the thrashing he got is sad.

but i think it has nothgint to do with my characters

its peoples distain for me........

wondering if i should even bother and quit mugen publicly.
nMo new generation of mugen exposure

alexlexus: Don't quit MUGEN just because of some award putting down your characters, get better. Listen to feedback, ask for help if needed, just don't give up. Nobody magically gets creator magic and spawn out great characters, they had to work to get to be good, and if you just keep trying and giving 120%, you can learn from past mistakes and make better characters/ improve on previous characters. ^_^; (me and my cheesy speeches)

supermystery

Indeed its nice to have recognition and a good reputation.

Although I have a little issue with these awards and alexlexus just reminded me of it, i really dont think putting the "worst character of the year" is a good idea. While it may be hilarious to some people its not very nice to the ones that actually tried to make something for mugen even if a lot of people dont think its up to their standards. In general its just not very encouraging for potential new creators.

It would be better just naming who did well instead, then those who didnt quite make it in the special mention could try harder next time.

Then it wouldnt make people want to quit and give up mugen

Its quite humiliating to be honest.

Kamekaze

well technically thats true. but from the way i saw it. people were constantly saying what was wrong with his gouken and with every update, little or nothing was done about them. Regardless of how people say whats wrong, feedback is still feedback.

119/150 Chars, I'm not dead yet....the true surprise is in my thread.

It still doesnt justify this. Yes feedback is feedback but i think humiliating the person is not really the best way of dealing with that.

Of course this is just my opinion.

Nah I'm sure it's got to do with your characters.

hows this different than the many "favorite creators" and "worse creators" thread ???

It isnt, but those threads come and go pretty quick. So people will forget about them in a few days/weeks.

Official awards are usally more memorable.

Of course, Im just stating what i think.

Despite that point, the competitions pretty cool

supermystery

lol, but take into account the rest of what i said too :P

JustNoPoint

An award given for worst hurts more than just passing by a thread where people are flamming all sorts of "bad" developers.

It tells these people that not only are they the worst.... they are the worst of the worst. And people came together to *ahem officially* designate them as such.

People don't HAVE to listen to feedback. Heck some people don't even want feedback. It's not a big deal just to let people be creative in their own unique ways without having to bash them for it. I'd prefer it if mugen work was looked at like comics in the drunk duck community.

Many of them are very very amateur. But unless asking for legit feedback most members will simply ignore the comic or give them positive feedback. Or at least tactful feedback.

Whoever started this tough love stuff on the internet is the real worst. We have enough blatant assholes on the net without converting others as well.

Rajaa Retired

That's definitely true that nobody HAS to listen to feedback at all, that's why when i give feedback i usually keep to phrases like "i think" or make it clear in some way that it's my opinion. Maybe listening to feedback that crashes MUGEN would be nice to be listened to so people can enjoy any particular authors work. :)

I don't think people should expect everyone to like their art, but i also don't believe that someone should be given an AWARD?! for supposedly having the worse stuff, especially based off of what?! 40 votes. In addition usually awards are given for accomplishments that are positive, not forced negative accomplishments; especially accomplishments that are not even close to being considered the opinion of a majority.

I do believe Alexlexus tries to much to please others though, due to replies like, "[i will show those people who doubted me, and i will release the best Dante for MUGEN]". I don't really think that should be an objective of an author of any sort; well for the most part, any author of something that is completely for self enjoyment, not self deployment, at least it shouldn't be. :P

About as much as everyone else has a right to agree that a creation is worse than the others. If you deny that, it makes no sense to allow people to agree that a creation is the best out of all the others, either. Just because it's "positive" ? Even if the reasoning is the same ? It makes no sense. People can say something is good, people can say something is bad, if they have reasons to support that choice. And they can even gather and agree about that choice, for good or for bad. What is it, "you're not allowed to say something bad" ?

That said, at RS, KFM is asking about inputs on what should happen to that section of the awards. I'm suggesting that, if nothing more, at least it could be cut down to one single "special mention" ; some "heads up : seriously, this sucks, you're doing everything that can be done to make it worse". Or as with the example of Alexlexus, he's just trying to prove he's the best, while doing nothing in the way of improvement. Afterall, there's a reason so many people nominated him and voted for him.
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

Positive encourages though. Being more positive and tactful is especially useful since most people that get into mugen are kids to teenagers.
So they are more prone to either emulate or alienate.

Now if a person doesn't mind being in the running for worst (or best) awards that's a different story. But if you don't know how the person would feel about winning an award it's better not to place them as an option.

You know... ask permission 1st or something for respect purposes.

EDIT: I didn't say you wasn't ALLOWED to say anything is bad. the norm should be to NOT say something is bad unless the person you are criticizing doesn't mind it. It's about respect. Granted some people would even find it disrespectful to Win a "positive" award...

EDIT2: See see I am even being guilty of it right now haha, criticizing the awards. It places that negative energy out there.

QuoteAfterall, there's a reason so many people nominated him and voted for him.
Right, they had the option to do so. Who knows, it may be the final straw that makes him improve his work. But even if it does he will always have a bitter memory and agitated emotions from the past nagging at him.

The thing is, usually those who get nominated and then elected aren't exactly those who arrived yesterday and just learned what a trigger means. That's the whole point. You aren't bad just because you haven't learned yet, that's just inexperience - you're bad when you have tried countless times and just refuse to make any improvement. This isn't bashing someone who doesn't know anything for the sole reason he hasn't even had the time to learn anything yet, don't act like we're pushing away the newcomers just because they don't know all the triggers by heart yet.
Alienate ? Alienate someone who's been around for years and is going full speed backward in term of actually moving forward, and is even acting like he's already the best to boot ? Is there even any room for more alienation than what such a person would already be doing to themselves ?

I understand that.

But why punish him publicly like that just because he could be stubborn, slower, not applying himself, messing with everyone, satisfied at his own progress, etc?

Now if all the people that were nominated were told beforehand and did not mind if they got best or worst awards that is different. But it looks like that alexlexus  didn't agree. (or he did and now he regrets it :P)

EDIT: @ When I said alienate I was referring to the person alienating from us. Rejecting our feedback because we are always negative. Or even thinking positive feedback is negative.

Most users either try to fit in and emulate behaviors or they try and "be different" by doing most anything the majority or groups may dislike just to spite them or to feel they are not joining a group.

I just figure it's the same reason we publicly praise someone who does the opposite. And no, I don't recognize the difference between someone who finds reasons to judge something is good and someone who finds reasons to judge something is bad. It's the same process, you're doing the same thing.

It doesn't change much. Actually, those who get nominated and elected are often those who already do exactly that, and it's even one of the reasons they get nominated / elected. So much for the award itself making that any better or worse :P

The difference is this thing called feelings and respect.

I assume it's the same reason you (and I) would prefer people ask for permission before altering another person's works.

Otherwise there is no difference there either.

And yeah, I am doing the same thing I know... but it's hard to give an example by not saying anything <- yes you can use that against me as well... basically it's a stalemate argument. I'm not trying to change minds... just wanting people to see more sides.
