Resizing Sprites

Here's a topic on "Resizing Sprites":

I'd like to increase the size of a beam super (the beam sprite).

Is there a way to make sprites bigger without a sprite editor? Through Fighter Factory?

I've seen screenshots in the ol' "Screenshot Thread" with oversized characters, too big for the screen.
