Capcom vs. The World Alpha: Ryu

Well, that didn't take long, did it? Now that I've cut my teeth on MUGEN creation with Mario, I figured I'd try to make something in my own style to see how I fare at developing things. Well, I say my own style - this was heavily influenced by Pocket Rumble, as well as the characters made by Red Lunchbox and the early prototypes of Capcom vs. The World 2 by Memo. I added my own spin on things to try and make it unique, so here's hoping this counts as more than a simple edit :P

Here's the lowdown on the gameplay, copied from the ReadMe:

Current issues (that I know of):
  • I feel that his damage output is way too high, even with the damage dampener applied. I may need to look into downgrading damage values across the board, but I will want some feedback on how much to do it by, or how to tweak the dampener.
  • There's some weird issues with Shinkuu Tatsumaki that I don't know how to solve. Maybe someone more skilled in coding than I am will know what to do?

UPDATE: Video Preview for Rage Mode and Ultra Combos!



Keep in mind that this is VERY WIP, and I will remove and change stuff to try and make things look more polished. The "RAAAAAAGE!" and "ULTRAAAAA COMBOOOOO!" shouts will definitely be replaced, so don't get too attached to them.

So this is how it works: When you have low life, you can chose to activate either Rage Mode by pressing , or an Ultra Combo with a unique motion. Each has it's own unique features:
  • Rage Mode gives you a ten-second boost in power, and you can perform one free Super Combo without using any meter. But once the time limit is up or you perform the Super Combo, then you cannot use Supers anymore. You will still be able to perform Zero Counters, however.
  • Ultra Combo's are devastating attacks that remove over half of the opponent's life. They cost 3000 Power, and must be timed correctly, as if you whiff, you will again be unable to perform Super Moves.
As of now, everything is implemented in this except for the whole "still use Zero Counters" thing, as in the current state the Super Meter is completely shut off. I will have to tweak some variables to make this work the way I want. Also, Throws are now done with while holding forward or backward, in standard fighting game style, and Supers are done by pressing with a direction.

Looks cool, hey I didnt forget about you I just have to edit the chars a bit
Before I send them because they only work inside the mugen builds I have.
Or maybe ill just send you the whole mugen with the chars in them too
Sounds easier.

1.0 UPDATE: New Hitsparks and Super Spar, courtesy of Memo! Also, Rage Mode and Ultra Combo are added. Redownload and try them out.

1.1 UPDATE: New FX courtesy of Memo, as well as general polishing, throw tech and recovery rolls! Also, another video preview!



Let me clear something up first: yes, I pretty much stole the Kaio-Ken effects from Goku Z2 to make that aura for Rage Mode and Ultra Combo. If people have a problem with it, I'll take it out, but I really wanted something to give them a graphical punch, and those effects seemed the best way to do it. Major apologies if I this offends anyone, and I mean no disrespect to Team Z2 and their hard work.

Be sure to redownload and try the new features out!

So it turns out I'm a massive idiot and forgot an important feature I was going to add to the CvWA system - the Cross-Up Attack. When jumping, hold forward and press X to do a different attack that allows you to do crossups correctly. I put it in Mega Man when I was working on him, but completely neglected to put it into Ryu. So you're gonna have to redownload it again :P

Also, I got bored and made a voice patch for CvW Sub-Zero using his Mortal Kombat X voice.

UPDATE: A new beta version of Ryu, featuring new 3-Button gameplay akin to MvC3/Tatsunoko vs. Capcom has been created.

  • Now 3 Buttons + UT, instead of Smash Bros.-esque controls. See Readme for more details

What's Needed
  • Fixes on sound effects for Shinkuu Tatsumaki
  • Adjust Shin Shoryuken to be Level 3 Super Combo
  • New Ultra Combo???

SInce I'm about it, I'd like to get some honest feedback from you guys. What am I doing wrong, and where can I improve? Do you prefer the Smash Bros. style controls, or the new system? Answer in the poll above and by posting in this very topic!

His Shinku Tatsumaki doesn't work right in the corner.
Also the new system is pretty okay to me so far.
Edit: I also shouldn't be able to hit someone 5 times with a launcher so you might want to not have it induce a fall state.
And this is more of a nitpick but you might want to tone down the juggling a bit because I can just do crouching Heavy attack into hadoken and spam heavy to take off a fourth of someone's life bar before the juggle points run out in a corner.

Can you elaborate on how it "doesn't work right"? I'll need to know exactly what the problem is so I can fix it. Other than that, I'll look into those issues ASAP.

Also, I'm restarting the poll. That joke option should not have gotten three votes, honestly - I shan't put one of those in again. :wall:

If Ryu is in the corner all the hits don't connect and the opponent is pushed away. It also happens if the opponent is in the corner though not as frequently.

UPDATE: The following changes have been made to the 3-Button version of Ryu:
  • Errors with Shinkuu Tatsumaki fixed.
  • Corner Push added to Launcher to prevent infinites.
  • Aerial knockback values on Hadoukens changed to prevent infinites. Also, only Hard Air Hadouken causes a knockdown now.
  • A bunch of other minor things I can't remember.

Alright, so it seems from the poll that the 3-Button style is what is preferred. I was intending to switch to that style anyway, even though I personally like the Smash style more, so all future characters will be created in that style.
