I think the red fonts do not blend too well with the background why not trying using clear colors like some sort of light yellow. The Lifebar concept is pretty cool I must say
Alternatively, make it a white-to-red gradient instead of a black-to-red one. Unless you tried that and didn't like it. Bars are pretty cool too.
