Unlockable characters

Sorry if this has been asked before but is it possible to make it so that boss characters are not selectable until you have beaten them in the main game?

Why the fuck would you want to do that? And yes, there is a way to do that. Put the boss character in Mugen, kick his ass with any other cheap character, then stick the boss character into your roster where he is visible. Yippie Kai Yay

Because numnuts I want to make a game for people to play where they have to unlock the characters by fighting them. Not by moving files around and editing  .def files.

If you're gonna be a loser about it why post?

Some where on this site I remember reading a tutorial that gives pointers on how to hide the boss/secret stage until you fight the boss in arcade or team battle. Use the TMFG search engine in order to seek it out. Matter of fact:

Hey, you may not be able to unlock secret boss chars but you can kind of, sort of, unlock their stages when you fight them if you make it so. Also, though you may not unlock them through special code, there is a way of making the character seem unlockable? You can hide characters on the player select screen (think of Gouki in X-Men Vs. Street Fighter hidden some where on screen) :ninja: I know it's cheap and lazy but it's something.
