Using Sprites from the same source?

I think I have enough experience to attempt to make a character, preferably another Pikachu.

One Problem: I am worried about the fact that the sprites I am using uses the same source as XGargoyle's Pikachu sprites. I am worried about people yelling at me for "stealing" the sprite sheet.

Is it OK to work with sprites that is similar, but not the same as, another person's sprites?

Just state in your credits where you got the sprites from, there shouldn't be any problem if it's honest.
