I know alot of people have had some trouble
with XP and it's sound(usually it's scrachy and slow)so they use VDMsound to fix it,but that also causes a high frequency of Allegro errors,
so here's what to do:when you go to make a VDMsound configuration simplely uncheck all the
other emulation options except soundblaster
emulation,since all you want is good sound right?This should reduce if not eliminate all Allegro errors associated with VDMsound.It worked for me and I use to have
Allegro errors every match,which made Mugen
unplayable,but now after I did this I haven't had
a single Allegro error. 8) ;D







P.S.I have not tested this on 2000 or NT but just
because I haven't tested it on those OS's doesn't mean it won't work.Try it out,what do have to lose except those horrorble Allegro errors. :thumbsup:




Edit:If you have some problems from turning off
Adlib and Midi then just turn off joystick emulation and leave the other two on and turn Adlib synthesis up to 44100;D

Thanks!I see you edited your post,but I'll reply
to your old post because the answer may help
others with the same questions about Vdm sound.It seems that Adlib and joypad emulation
aren't compatible with Mugen,whether you use
them together or apart.Using software/hardware with Mugen is a hit and miss
situation:you may hit good with a nice controller
but miss big with a bad video card,or realy miss
big with the wrong OS.Maybe they will be compatible or maybe not even necessary in....
dare I say it WINMUGEN duh duh duhnnn. ;D

Hmm.... When I use this with VDMSound. The sound is delayed?

Example. If Guile or Ryu throw a projectile, you do not hear 'Sonic Boom' or 'Hadoken' until after the animation is done. That is how late the sound plays for me using my VDMSound.

Do you know way to fix this for sound to be more accurate to the correct timing?

tried increasing game speed? That used to happen to me, until I did that.

But the sound is clear though, right?

Hey MMZero did you try changing any of the options on the soundblaster tab,I found out that
I could uncheck the box for the output device(which is my sound card)and still have sound
using just the soundblaster emulation,try it and
if it doesn't work then try changing the dsp version(which is the soundbaster you are emulating)to anything besides soundblaster16. 8)

but when i start mugen with VMDsound
i get the following error.

Did this happen before or after you turned off
all the other emulations?Remember you have to
turn off all emulations except soundbaster(that
includes MIDI,Adlib and joypad). :)

Well this is kind of strange,usually VDMsound errors happen before the start of a match,I've
never heard of it happening while Mugen was
trying to start up,but anyway seeing is how
every thing alse is off you should keep your
attention on the compatibility tab(which is used for memory)and the soundblaster tab.In the compatibiity tab change the [EMS] option to its
highest setting then try Mugen,if that doesn't
work then turn [EMS] and [XMS] off then try again,also you could try changing the IRQ from
7 to 5 or turning off the output device(your sound card) in the soundblaster tab.As a last resort try turning off Windows compatibility(so Windows can't emulate any other OS's).It could
be your computer or maybe the version of your
XP,I had the same exact problem without VDMsound on WIN98se,which made installing 98se a complete waste of time(so much crying :'( and so many cus words :furious3:)





P.S.If none of this works then just take Ignatius
advice and try sound fx2000 ;D 8) ;D

Yes they need to release winmugen for those with Win XP especially.

Also, about the sound. The sound is much better less static with VDMSound yes, but I'm still hearing it as late timing. I changed the sound blaster options and still nothing happened. Maybe someone can 'show' me what exactly I need to change to fix my sound timing bug?

BTW, before I got XP, the sound was perfectly fine. But because of XP, it's all ruined now.  ::)

Hello, I'm having a different kind of problem. I used to get these Allegro errors all the time, so I tried to upgrade VDMsound with the update package 2 and the launchpad. Now, for some reason, MUGEN freezes when it gets to "Initializing Keyboard". Anyone know what's wrong here?

Do not apply Update Package 2.  Repair or reinstall version 2.0.4 and try the solution at the top of this forum.

Unverified, but Possibly Useful, Tip:

Sometimes removing ID Tags from an MP3 file can slightly improve playback quality and volume in MUGEN.  It works for me.

MMZero maybe you should try using Adlib.
just turn it back on and change some of the options,is it just sound effects or is it the stage music that delays as well.

i got the csdpmi4b.zip,
wath do i need to do next?
i unzip them to my Mugen folder....
but i still get the error message...

protected mode not accessible
