Some of you may laugh at the topic title, but maybe not when you see this. I'm not here to try and promote or advertise another forum, so sorry if I make conflict with any mods here. I'm here to inform the public that there is something else out there besides Infcat. Sakirsoft has been working quietly on ShugenDo over the years and he finally released a beta today. I told him I would help by spreading the word. This is quiet different from InfCat, where as InfCat is just a mugen clone, this is something completely new. But 100% compatible with all mugen creations, and you don't have to compile your chars before you play them. Anyway. Here is the place you can get it. The link is in the ShugenDo Discussion>NEW YEAR BETA RELEASE THREAD.http://www.sithangel.com/board/index.phpSorry again if this causes problems, I just thought you all had a right to know.
I 've just read the readme (still have to actually test or see the video) but i would say that having to add a .pcx file in the characters folder as the small portrait, when you have it already available inside the SFF (which, for a new engine, would allow you to have it change acording to the character's chosen palette as it happen on some official games) is definitelly a minus.ok, the video download finished. lets check it...
I read some of the threads in that forum, you are missing the point over InfinityCat.Kratos said:Yeah, I know about this too. ShugenDo will be much better.Infinity Cat is interesting, but way too buggy. The author should focus more on getting the bugs out of the engine and making chars fully compatible. Instead the author is just adding new triggers.Sakir was smart, he worked on the main engine first and worked out all his bugs, And then he added new stuff.Having Patients pays off, and our wait will be worth it. I can tell. Looking forward to an new year with ShugenDo!Read the InfinityCat forums a bit more, they ARE being fixed and almost daily.New triggers/sctrls = innovationSo it's not just a clone.
Kratos said, January 04, 2007, 08:33:35 pmI think he plans to make the portrait match the pallete even if it's not included in the sff.even so, i simply don't get the reason: he can read the SFF. so why not simply read the portrait on the SFF instead?Just saw the video: 1) i'm impressed that all those characters were able to run with just few bugs (Evil Ken's extra after image on SGS, Thor dissapearing on his throw). It sure is a evolution from OpenMugen (BTW, is ShugenDo the same project, or was OM abandoned?).2) Palette selection: ME LIKE IT! I just hope its programable and the way its done currently is not the only way to do it. (you could have the option to do it the way mugen does or even to create your own palette menu and stuff).3) i don't know if it is because of the black background, but i think transparencies are missing.it is a good project, none the less, and i wish Sakirsoft good luck!
Those post in that forum from me, are simply my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own. If people judge me just from a couple post they've seen, they really don't know me. I don't want to make a bad image of myself, but i'll always speak my mind.VinnyJ said, January 04, 2007, 08:45:50 pmI read some of the threads in that forum, you are missing the point over InfinityCat.Read the InfinityCat forums a bit more, they ARE being fixed and almost daily.New triggers/sctrls = innovationIt's great that Sofiya is making something new, and I admire that. But it's just my opinion that Sofiya should focus more on getting all bugs out of the engine and make chars 100% compatible before adding all that new stuff. And it's definately a minus that you have to compile your chars for Infcat before they can play.
why each coder doesn't take part at the same 'alternative/better mugen' project instead of making 2000 different versions?
mulambø said, January 04, 2007, 09:02:41 pmwhy each coder doesn't take part at the same 'alternative/better mugen' project instead of making 2000 different versions? Cause sakirsoft started his project over 3 years ago, and maybe each creator does not have the same ideas as the other one. We should be happy that they are even making something.
QuoteAnd it's definately a minus that you have to compile your chars for Infcat before they can play.A really painless process:Code: StConv_Win32Release.exe kfm kfm.bin > kfm.logcopy kfm.bin chars\kfmAnd a one line edit of kfm.defYou aren't recompiling a SFF, you know. Also, Winmugen ignores the bin = kfm.bin line, so anyone can release an InfinityCat-ready character meant for Mugen.

But would you rather do that? or add one line to the select file. The answer is obvious.

We should be happy that they are even making something.oh, i see. and yes, i am happy that someone is even making something, but i can't understand why to have different ideas can damage the situation, i mean, it's 'only' about coding something. different points of view could only make it better, or am i wrong? maybe sakirsoft just wants to work on his own?
I think he does want to work on his own, and I can understand your point of view. But there is also language barriers, even though that is a small thing. And there is also a difference in knowledge, and some people just work better on their own.
Lol. Even though having another "Mugen screenpack" that has amazing features like Pal select ability, screenpack select (*Cough*Mugen Omega)And not to mention future on line playing and having it already recognizing usb controllers without having to turn on a little option called "Auto".... and who knows what else goodness...Sounds cool....I guess we all still need Infinity Cat's new mugen programming triggers....I guess those among us making characters and character fixes agree. For example I'm working on an onscreen projectile fight code, maybe for DBZ chars use in future... a trigger and some other properties would make it easier. However features from Shugen do really look like a miracle for me. Hope all gets along well, good things might come in the future from all...Edit:Sorry I know F12. But it's an old screenshot.
Yes SofiyaCat, he is alive. He's just been very quite. This is OpenMugen. Sakir decided to rename it.If you search ShugenDo on Wikipedia, you can see the meaning of the word. This is the newest version of ShugenDo. And sakir plans to keep working hard on it. People's feedback would help. They could tell him their suggestions.
