I intend for my next character to be a small character, albeit for a reason (he's tiny in his source material, it's kind of his whole thing). Is it worth making him if so many people are against such characters, or would it be a waste of my time and effort?

"Small" you mean like "Servbot"/"Touhou" sized characters?

At least for me I don't see a reason for hate that char types XP


OBS: A touhou character will be made on VS Style Debuts also but for now it's a surprise :P

do you mean small like servbot in that he's just short or do you mean like someone from a neogeo pocket KOF game.

Because if it's the latter... I think people don't like them because they don't mesh well with most other characters.

If it's the former, it's because people are whiny and can't deal with the fact that they can't win by spamming fireballs.

i has been thinking about it too, bud. i am scheduling to release my own version of Tintin in 2 weeks. he is from snes game and has very smooth anims but as ya know snes games do not have very big size in non fighting games. being big means a very bad looking pixelated char. ya know and watched it.
i get dbz snes size and i found some of them cheap and or not a good work like broli ssj 80. maybe people hates the cheapness or a overpowered small char. a solution for me was get a ngpc screenpack and put in all small chars. other is make a bit weaker those chars cause is cool see kirby or batman snes fight against Sagat or Iori.
weak but not like Lester's out of this world one hit ko.

Nah, you should totally go through with it. Look at 90% of the stuff I make, it's all on the shorter side and I think there's a fair amount of people who like them. Part has to do with author popularity too. Some people are fans of someone's work no matter what they make. Other people are fans of specific works. It depends also on your intents for the character. Is it for you or is it for the community. If it's for you, then don't let something petty hold you back from creating something you want to make. If it's for the community, then making something the community wants is the obvious choice, but still, I think you should go through with it. I usually don't get flak about the size of my characters and anyone can just adjust the localcoord accordingly to compensate for any lost size without ruining too much. Part of it is laziness on peoples' sides as well. Ultimately, it's up to you, but I think you should.

Seems as though a lot people are too concerned about the popularity of their releases.

Just make whatever you want, opinions will thrash about this way and the next, but in the end you're putting something out there that you either like from its source, or enjoyed making.  Bonus points for both.  Somebody out there will probably like it either way.

They hate because a lot peoples are making bad chibi chars,the only good chibi chars is Mikel's and Jeffrey's JUS chars.They are amazing

Well, that's your opinion of those creators, but it's true there are many bad chibi characters, but we're not even referring to chibi. Just shorter character than normal. Characters that use older sprites from older systems and are sized smaller that the Arcade norms everyone is used to seeing.

Making small characters is fun.
I've mostly done small and smallish characters in my slightly long career.

Focus not on what people want or say, but on whether you're having fun making said characters or not.

Yeah, I don't mind small characters. I have a small character or two that I main'd back in the day.

That being said, keep in mind that not many people play with small characters.
