An experiment that first born in the past April Fools 2023, the first idea was to edit POTS' Ryu into ClayFighter 63 1/3 style passing it as a new edit of that char, that eventually was ditched the idea in favor of N.Boss... idea that was reborn during these months after the rest of the C&D and the release of the beta of Dr. Kiln. The idea remains the same with a little twist: now it's in SFII style instead CVS. So I took an old Ryu from WinM era and converted into something more "moldable."

This is an experiment as those ones I didn't have since years ago, something like Gen-an, Shuma-Gorath or Eagle Zero, something dedicated that I wanted to do and finally I can bring to you, so I hope you like it ;) of course it's M1.0+ compatible, so don't worry ;)

Sadly, there're problems with Guild's FTP so I can't upload it to my site, but always I can count with the ol' reliable MediaFire. Eventually I'll update this with the link of my site as well the screenshots (now on Imgur), but meanwhile here's the link, enjoy ;)

Haha okay the Honda Claytality is great. I like what you did with the palette too.

A couple of minor things I found:

- There is a very brief window during Shinkuu Tatsumaki where you can hit him and he'll get stuck in the air. This is a very subtle bug so I had to edit my screenshot a little.
- For some reason, the command for the first combo finisher has a slightly different input depending on the version you're using. In the Winmugen version, it's "F, D, DF", and in the 1.0 version it's "D, DF, F".
- This one is more of a nitpick but I feel like as it is, the SF4 voice doesn't fit the classic SF2 sprites. I was thinking you could either switch voices OR maybe even edit the SF4 voices to make them low quality like the other Clayfighter characters.

Pretty interesting take on Ryu overall!

My first video of 2024:


Decided to do something more special and put him in the game, so he could be more in his element. That helped me find a few issues with him, though:

  • Many of his standing normals will miss on shorter characters, this is more notable on Octohead, but chars of similar size will probably have a similar issue.
  • Shinkuu Tatsumaki is very inconsistent with how it hits characters. For example, it seems to work perfectly on Octohead, but it will push Ryu and KFM away after only a few hits and will get less hits than it should on Bad Mr. Frosty, I won't test it on everyone, but it should get all its hits in on everyone.
  • Not sure if intended, but he can't do a single weak attack > medium attack > strong attack combo. His standing and crouching punches will always push the enemy too far away for his strong punches to connect, his medium standing kick simply does not chain into his strong kicks and his crouching weak kick doesn't chain into his crouching medium kick.
  • "Get serious." "Get serious." "Get serious" really needs to go. It's better if the line only happens once in a while or if it doesn't happen at all and he just grunts when attacking.
  • This is more of a personal preference, but I agree with N_N about the voice. SF2 voice would fit well because of the low quality, but the SF4 voice could also fit if you edit it to have a really bad quality like the other voices in ClayFighter. I also think that in both cases you could make the voice a little more accelerated, since the other characters do talk like they're in a hurry to finish their lines.
  • Another personal preference, I think his Hadouken looks a little too... shiny and detailed compared to other ClayFighter projectiles, which are more on the simplistic side. It's also not transparent. I used Earthworm Jim's projectile to make a mockup of what I mean, I adjusted it to be more symmetrical (which Jin's isn't, but I think Ryu's should be) and to be roughly the same size as the regular Hadouken, if made sorta like that and transparent, it would be more fitting.

- That's a good idea indeed, I'll see what I can do (originally I wanted to use SFTM voices but can't find enough for the character... or more lines in english)

- Since I barely edit FAX's Ryu AIR, it's expected to happens that. In IC, there's a high possibility you'll get it harder against short chars like Kangoo, Sarge and Boogerman
- Here I can't make a lot, it happened also with Taffy's Super Taffy Twist. It all depends of the hitboxes of the opponent mostly, in some oppoents connects all the hits and in other barely can connect some, it's a rulette TBH
- Strange, I can make those Capcom combos with him, but eventually I'll adjust the hitvels to make hom more comboable... or maybe not since Ryu esencially is a 1-hit character mostly. Well, I'll see that
- Oh yeah, I noticed after a time playing with him XD I need to add more phrases so he can say more stuff
- I also agree, as well the accelerate the voices, got that idea in a beginning but I didn't apply it in the end. For the update those things will be done for sure (and maybe an alt SND with his SF2 voices)
- Another thing I was thinking to do and I didin't... I got another in mind, like a clay spit (CF2's Blob/Slyck projectile) but with white, even it was added to the SFF, but I never used it. That's a good idea to use Jim's fireball as Ryu's with those colors, maybe I can change it for the next update

Not an update, just that I uploaded ClayFighter Ryu to my site now, no more MediaFire link ;)

And yeah, I'm working on an update, so stay tuned ;)
