What is the Gameplay of Tekken About?

Can someone please fill me in here? See, I've played Tekken before, and to me, it's just about rushdown, pressure, and juggling, and the characters don't feel all that different. At least KoF (which I play on a regular basis,) with it's rushdown antics has characters with different feels, but I don't get that from Tekken. I know the gameplay mechanics of Tekken,  but I just don't know what Tekken's about at it's core. (Gameplay-wise.) Can someone please illuminate me on what the gameplay of Tekken is all about?

people play tekken for slower than life experience...

they see lots of action going on screen, but only need to control the pad slowly.

"Bad News" Hoffmann

there are people which describe tekken as the chess of fighting games

other people call it a simple button masher

and some just call it THE game for juggle combo fans.

i think the gameplay is fast enough and i like that the most characters have more or less charisma, there is paul with his stupid i wanna beat them aliens attitude..evil kazuya etc. the gameplay is a nice mix between normal attacks, specials and combos for me and i like it.

To this day, I still do not understand Tekken notion at all.

I just wing it by doing random combination's and pray for the best.

Then, their fighting game background must only consist of Smash Bros Melee and Dragon Ball Budokai.

I've played nearly every Tekken available and I've never thought of that before.
I think it's more of an attack, defend, attack, defend type of gameplay.
It's not a game where you can just rush down your enemy, you have to wait for your enemy to do a mistake and then you can punish them with some juggles or target combos.

But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Kinda strange but I woke up today and her hand was on my ass cheek
I won't suspect anything though I'll take it she was sleeping and didn't notice
you should have flipped over slowly

Tekken is chess-like yes. It relies on who can execute the better moves.

If you think the games are button-mashing STOP USING EDDIE/CHRISTIE!!!!!!!!!!!

I enjoy tekken as a spectator, as rythmical dance is really not my cup of tea. I hate the stiffness of the normal atacks, this game can't be played at all unless I have memorized some combos sequence, because playing with reflex and common sense only won't work

It's definitely more of a thinking game than a skill based game.  Most of the time you're looking for a window of opportunity to strike, and you have to choose the correct move to punish with.  (Which is why people complain about needing to memorize frame data) Yes there are juggles, but if you hit with a launcher your opponent must have screwed up big time.

Tekken is basically: bait -> launch -> juggle. You don't necessarily have to learn the combos either just certain attacks that are good for certain situations. Combos are nice but most if not all 10 hit combos have points within them where you can recover fast enough to block/dodge (tested in T5 with stun detection on with the cpu performing the combo). If you're new to the game you may not be able to spot them so easily but they're there.

And yeah...Eddie/Christie = button mash heaven. Hwoarang and Baek too to a lesser extent. I guess every game needs beginner level characters. Kinda like Maxi in Soul Calibur.

"Bad News" Hoffmann

there are characters in soul calibur you cannot button mash with?

::)

Luis Alejandro

Glad in tekken 6 they added a block stun for Eddie thank god

Not against someone that knows what they're doing. They'll be parried left and right.

thing i like about tekken is there isn't really tier based gameplay so its pretty much me giving out equal opportunity ass-whoopins for that ass yo

Well, after doing some fighting in TK6, (after not having done so in several months and having acquired even more fighting game knowledge and experience,), I have a new opinion of Tekken. It's like a fast fluid game of chess. You have to sort of play it safe and attack with safe, light strikes and move around the field at first, but when your opponent makes a mistake, it's time to go in the kill, using slower, more damaging attacks, and those juggles and bounds. (TK6 only.) And part of what makes this work is the large array of moves each character has at his/her disposal. As for the differences between them, overall, they have different feels, though not quite as much as I'd like. All in all, while Tekken isn't my favorite fighter, it's a change of pace, and enjoyable overall.

you can't mixup a blind man, and you can't out think a brick ~skisonic
Street fighting is all about analysis, prediction, and reaction. That's it.

Ahh touche lol

But tbh I'm only about good with like a few people. You'd most likely kick my ass. I've seen your skills lol.

KAMEN RIDER!

IF you ever tried to button mash in tekken you'll die... (some exceptions being eddie and christie)
I have only seen one Christie player who actually juggled instead of pressing random buttons hopeing for something to work.
