The 1st piece looks more like it's trying to be deep than an attempt to make Bush buff.
As if it has this bleakness from being a man who's done things of regret, looking back (huehuehue) at them in the shower, thinking of things that could have been.
The odd proportions and misalignment really help the bleakness for me.
And dear god I'm defending a Bush painting some artistic credibility.
