Animation Problems

So i've just started making my first character to send into SaltyBet. I made the animation using all the tools supplied by Elecbyte but the animation's colours are all over the shop. I think I did something wrong with the colour map and i've had a couple attempts at fixing it up but to no avail.

Here's a pic of what is looks like: http://imgur.com/KZOoZu8

The programs i'm using are GIMP and Fighter Factory 3

UPDATE 1: I've fixed the colour map issues but there is still some sketchiness around the sprite. I'm thinking the easiest way is to smooth the colours out on my sprite sheet and remake it all. If anyone knows a better way it would be appreciated as i'm not much of an artist. The only other way I can think of is adding more transparents into the colour map but I can't figure out how to do it.

UPDATE 1.5: So if you couldn't already tell i'm new to all of this you will be able to now. I just found that I can use that colour picker in GIMP and it will show me exactly which part of the colour map that it is.

UPDATE 2: Worked out how to make transparent slots in the colour map in FF3. (Turns out Alpha Channel means transparent, who knew? :P) If the animation turns out well I'll close this topic myself but if anyone wants to drop in some advice it would appreciated. :)

UPDATE 3: Animation is made but even though I made the green background transparent in FF3 i'm getting this black background for some reason.

Youre Fixed version is pretty bad for working in Mugen. You'll need to reduce the blur from all around his body with photoshop/gimp.

All the dots that are clear in between his hand and his leg and everywhere, those are probably 1 solid green color. You have to find a way to get ALL of the green to become that 1 single color.
Mugen only allows 1 color for the background to be transparent. That is unless you use the alpha channel and use a black background.

Yeah I smoothed out the sprites and he looks like this inside FF3.

When I put him into Mugen though he has that dark background like in the post above. Could this be an improperly specified palette in the cmd or def file?

Odb718

Yeah maybe. Are you using 1.0/1.1 or winmugen?
Try making a palette where his jacket's green and one's purple or something and see if you get the problems.
Is it always like that for all the palettes?

I'm using Mugen 1.0. I've only set up the one palette so far. I'll try making another one as soon as I get a chance. Thanks :)

Are you using JPEGs? That's a big, big mistake for sprites of any sort.

And0man

The original sprites were in JPEG so I indexed them and exported them from GIMP as PNG's. Is that still a problem?

I'm still trying to get some free time so I can make a couple more palettes, with a little luck I will be able to tomorrow. :)

Ok I finally got some time to work out what I did wrong. Stupid oversight on my part. I've somehow mixed up the colour map so my transparent green background is in the middle and not in the top left like it should be.

On another note, the sprites I have are indexed using GIMP from JPEG to PNG 256 colours. Should I get other sprites or are these good to use?

Felkazz

JPEG images usually have a really low quality and aren't good to use...

And0man

Ok i'll see if I can source some other sprites. Since i'm pretty confident I can do everything i've done so far fairly easily i'll solve this topic. Thanks to everyone for your help and patience. :)
