I have been working on a helper/platform referencing Bane84's Mario nes character.

He uses a projectile in his, I have been trying to just use hitdef in mine but am running into issues. Is it not possible to do this way? Does it have to use a projectile?

I went ahead and stuck to the projectile just to see if I could get it to work. I am really lost at this point, I thought I understood the idea behind platforms but I may have taken on to much. I'm able to have the projectile connect with the player no problem. I think just knowing the idea behind platforms would help me out a lot.

Solved this one. Thanks anyways guys!

If memory serves for this one. Projectiles were chosen for how controllable they were. You didn't have the stupid shit a hitdef can do like being activated and then staying that way. The projectile would show up when required and hit p2 because you could put it directly on him. After hitting it would vanish. And you didn't get more than 1 out at once because projectiles are owned by the root so you can easily stop multiple spawns. Projectiles allowed you to drop the player off the platform too as you could once more detect their position and spawn something on them. With re-using the helper as blocks this became a good method of common code.

There were a few other reasons but i honestly forget what they were. Bane did want me to rework the platforms so you could walk along them without multiple hits and could actually drop through holes where bricks weren't. I had a plan for that but never followed through on it as it meant recoding too much of the level.

In M.U.G.E.N there is no magic button

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.

Thanks for this added information! The Projectile makes more sense to me now. I never did get any of my hitdef experiments to work, I'm really happy with the projectile though.

I was really hoping I could make the statedef number using a var ( [statedef var(1)] ), that way I could make multiple platforms automatically off the same block of code, I guess I could do the same with triggers anyways. Being new with Mugen code really roots out what you can and cant do.  --;
