That's pretty good seeing all these awesome sprites makes me wish that at some point in the future (if the human race is still around) they will be made into full characters.

Trololo said, April 27, 2017, 05:16:26 pmBut Dragoon is too huge. He should be ~ Sagat's height.I see, on what height? When he's standing or on his fighting stance?
Yea, almostAlso his feet is on the 3d positioning like on the orig sprite.(maybe)Maybe i made him big because of the thickness i guess. Yea when it comes to it, ill try to make it better. I had some time to work it since this is the only free time that i had.
I really like seeing your sprites Pin, but I feel that while they're great they're not exactly CvS styled. The main problems being the palettes as well as the shading. Dragoon, his palette is way too dark. It looks like it could be more in line with SF3 sprites, or really it's own style. The shading is also a problem. Personally, I dont think the beads and the hands need to have four colors. This causes it to eat up the palette limits, and really there's a way to make them look good without multiple colors. I know that people dont really follow the 16 color rule, but its always good for practice. It's always best to look at official sprites to compare. Here's Yun. His pants only have three colors, and his hat has two. Without too much detail, they still look fine.Another is Terry, he doesnt have four shades on all parts of his body, only the jeans. And he still looks fine.Another one is Bison. Whenever you wanna shade metal, its best to look at Bison's shinguards/shoulder parts. While I did notice you share colors (the metal parts and the arms/legs), because the metal parts are so dark, it makes the arms and legs look dark as well. Overdetailing is also another factor, It's notable on the parts that are black. Like I mentioned above, it's always best to look at the official sprites to get a grasp at how it should look. CvS sprites are never hugely detailed like that, while SF3 sprites are. It looks nice! But if you want this to look in style, you need to detail less. Because I am bad with words, here's my quick edit.Another with 16 colors, since the quick fix is 19 colors.Sorry if the post is too large. I hope this helps with future sprites, Pin.
I know that you going into, but sometimes we cant easily rely on references. From what i seen on sprites is had a neat details that didnt follow from other sprite. what i visualize on the sprite is what i did there and also giving a characteristics of a char is. i tried to make it new than we could see.. but anyways thanks for the tip, im glad this will be helpful to make better ways on spriting.
Karasai said, April 28, 2017, 02:43:51 amNot going to lie about the colors you've used. They look like they would be used in a CPS2 sprite, instead of CvS.I had to take a closer look at your edit to understand what you even did to the sprite, and I'm just going to be blunt in here. It looks worse. In fact, it contradicts the advice you're trying to give. You told Pin that there is a thing such as overdetailing... yet what you do is add even more detailing to the sprite. When people refer to something being overdetailed, they usually mean when someone tries to fit way too many details into something that leads them into being too busy. I don't see Dragoon's sprite as "overdetailed", considering none of it leads the sprite into feeling too busy to look at, which might as well have to do with the sprite being rather big and allowing space for anti aliasing things this much. Your edit, on the other hand... you added ones that clash horribly with the rest of the sprite and are just downright distracting.I agree that keeping a strict color count helps people to practice in managing the coloring in their sprites better... however, it doesn't really looks like you learned from it at all, considering you added even more colors that didn't need to be there, while removing colors that had a certain importance to the sprite's appearance, technically making the sprite worse.Still on the overdetailing... the metallic shading you added completely misses the point of how to do it in the first place. Usually, the secondary lighting you added to his feet and shoulder claws are applied to shapes that are rounder... but the side of Dragoon's claws are completely flat, which means you basically modified the shape of them. And for some reason, you added dithering to his foot that just stands out, and... gosh, there are so many whites in his sprite that it feels chrome like now, instead of just simple metal. And why are there round highlights on his chest and his legs? You usually apply circular highlights like those to completely round surfaces, not flatter ones.Putting it shortly... this isn't a fix, it's the complete opposite of a fix, because you broke what worked about the sprite. Your edit is beyond misleading to the point it's harmful to others who are still learning. It's hardly an improvement, and whatever message you were trying to give with your advice has been completely lost with your downgraded version of the sprite. You took something that basically looked fine and tried too hard to make it look "in style" while ignoring anything that made the initial sprite good to begin with. If you are not good at giving advice at shading and detailing, then don't.By the way, look, I made an edit to Pin's sprite, and reduced the color count to 15, and one can hardly tell the difference in it. And what do you know, I didn't have to remove the brightening from his hands:
