This might take forever to complete, but... eh, whatever :gonkgoi:

I just think these goobers still deserve some chance to actually be anything other than freaking lost media.

Project "Decode"

A "demake" of Capcom Fighting All-Stars: Code Holder

Part one: Daisuke Dejima

The plan

Spoiler: some reference material (click to show)

Just take every bit of information avaiable, and translate those into a fairly complete character; with the main mechanics of Capcom vs. SNK 2, plus some additional bits from other games like Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution as well (increased color palette, transformations, etc.)

The method

Since all animation footage comes from heavily compressed camera recordings and teasers from decades ago, rather than directly tracing over them I will opt to do a slightly less tiresome approach - simply use other characters that have similar animations, and make adjustments to those until it feels just close enough to the original footage. Accuracy is desirable, but not a priority.

Video preview

Completed animations

Intro, standing, turning

Crouching, walking forward, walking back

Jump, dash forward, dash backwards

Run, get hit (high), taunt

Standing light punch

Standing medium kick

*Bonus*

Midnight Bliss (Capcom Fighting Jam version)

Lifebar portrait (custom size)

Dang, the ones you already posted here looks FLAWLESS. Can't even nitpick! :downsbravo:
Hope you can finish these, good luck!

It's looking REALLY good. Only complaint is that in his idle stance, it looks like his right foot's kinda sliding across the floor and just kinda looks like his left leg alone is carrying the whole weight of his body. Other than that, looks good!

snowy997

This looks awesome. Aww man, i wish so much that someone someday leaks a prototype of this game... It was really that bad?

Interesting.
Hope such a project will be completed.
Good luck.
Spriting is a long work.

SkySplitters

The one character from All-Stars that I wish got a comeback, as he looked so interesting. The sprites and animations looks fluid. Good luck.
Previously known as;
Mugen-Ninja 2011-2014.
The Street Fighter 2014-2021.

Dude01

this look cool but i have one question will that confusing input super be there? since capcom cancelled it.

Ehart2005

I seriously hope he doesn't hate us enough to do that to us lol.

[ Rose/ C.Viper/ Mars People/ Ash Crimson / Ivan Ooze ]: Finished
[ Shiki / Mature ] W.i.P.
[ ?? / ?? ]: Possible W.i.P.

Macaulyn97

Looks like it came straight out of an official game. Great job, I always wanted to see D.D. and Rook in MUGEN.

Neetso

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! :nice:
Yep, spriting a complete character takes a long time... but I'm here just for the funzies anyway, not really worrying about time. Taking things one step at a time is the way to go.

I see, the right leg indeed looks quite stiff compared to the rest of the body. I'll eventually revisit this animation, going for a subtle movement like the original.

Sees Rook silhouette, hype intensifies

Of course, the Code Holders team shall be complete! :kugoi: One character at a time.

Probably nah, the original input is just too impractical in a real match... having to hold a button for 20 freaking seconds just to activate it...!

Since the official guide stated that his last special works much like the Raging Demon, I will probably just make a similar input to that as well.

Walking back

This one gave a lot more trouble than it had any right to... but I think I've got to a acceptable point. The pants still look too baggy though, giving away the Cody reference. Yeah... I gotta revisit this one eventually.

Crouching

Funnily enough, when using CvS Terry's animations as a base, I thought about taking into account the canonical height of both characters (Terry is stated to be 182cm, while D.D. is 189cm). This gives the value of around 103,84...% when rescaling Terry sprites. And... it seems to work just fine with the sprites I've made already!

Hell yeah! Looks like I nailed D.D.'s sprite size from the start. :c00l:

Minimunch

Imagine, if someone finds a prototype build of CFAS and includes the audio from the game for the characters, I wonder if CFJ has some of those voicelines?

Ehart2005

If people can dig up Sonic prototypes out of thin air, it's only a matter of time before we find a prototype.

20 seconds for that super? Even when Pupa Salgueiro did that in Rage of the Dragons, it was 10 seconds, lol

Yes! It's freaking long!!!
In 20 seconds you can lose a match... with your finger holding a button...

looking pretty great so far! wanted to do this myself at one point, so i'm thrilled to see it!

consider: it ain't exactly 1:1 by any means, BUT the SFxT versions of Kazuya and Steve would cover a lot of the similar animations of D.D.'s kit, based on the location test stuff, while SFxT Hwoarang might be helpful for Rook. Obviously Remy. FEXL Jack, Kairi, and Rosso have some appropriate references in their kits as well. Haiji and Cool from Daraku Tenshi have some specific stuff, like Rook's DP kick. if i find my old scribbles regarding exactly this, i'll gladly share the parallel stuff i planned, but i'm sure better stuff has emerged in the decade since i gave it any thought.

Barring an unearthed prototype or newly discovered footage, Avel's unfortunately gonna be a whole lot of guesswork.

This gets a massive thumbs up from me!

There is a small chance that Ingrid's story in Street Fighter 6 sheds some light on him at least.

Basara Bogard

Wow, good to see someone is making D.D. for real!! Time ago I was thinking of that and even I would use a CS'd K' as base for him, but this is even better :D I'll be waiting for this, good luck in your project, you totally get my attention here ;D

PS: I know you said it, but legs should be thinner in walking back anim, it's the only feedback I can make, the rest is perfect
PS2: Not sure if you considered it already, but I was thinking of CvS Benimaru as base for Hook in the eventual case of using actual sprites to convert it

Not unless you go for Pupa's ultimate that goes to 30 seconds. That's crazy.

Back to the topic, this looks great.
